MD Anderson Cancer Center Senior Cashier - Dining Services in Houston, Texas
The Senior Cashier position in the Dining Services department at MD Anderson Cancer Center, located in the Texas Medical Center, is responsible for performing monetary transactions, including calculating meal costs, accepting payments, making change, and reconciling cash totals with register counts. The Senior Cashier counts and packages money, prepares reports of daily transactions, and forwards cash, receipts, and related records to the accounting department. This role may also include preparing beverage orders as needed.
Schedule:
The standard shift schedule is Monday through Friday and typically falls between 6:30 AM-3:00 PM or 8:30 AM-5:00 PM. Actual working hours may vary based on business needs, and all scheduling and operational requirements are subject to change.
What You'll Do:
Cash Handling: Verifies that the assigned cash bank is accurate and properly sets up the register. Performs cash handling transactions in accordance with institutional and departmental guidelines, ensuring each customer is accurately checked out by verifying employee IDs, reviewing items on trays, and properly charging for all items. Provides customers with error-free transaction totals, issues receipts, and returns correct change. Prepares and verifies daily sales totals with the supervisor at the end of each shift and deposits money accordingly. May also verify the daily sales totals of other cashiers in the absence of supervisory personnel.
Customer service: Exhibits excellent guest relations skills with patients, visitors, employees, and managers, maintaining a high level of professionalism through cooperation and receptiveness to others. May prepare and serve beverages and food items while offering assistance to individuals of all ages, races, cultural backgrounds, beliefs, and medical conditions. Ensures that paper menus and daily menu strips are posted and kept up to date. On weekends, ensures that all areas of the food service venues open on time and promptly notifies management of any call-outs. Completes cashier audits at the end of each month and verifies daily cashier change orders. May also train new employees as assigned by management.
Inventory Management/Sanitation and Safety: Maintains the work area by replenishing condiments, food items, trays, plasticware, and napkins as needed. Ensures a safe and sanitary environment by disposing of clutter, regularly cleaning countertops, and keeping the workspace free of personal belongings. Demonstrates flexibility to be reassigned to new locations or shifts as operational needs dictate, with cross-training potentially involving shift changes.
What We're Looking For:
High school diploma or equivalent.
Two years of Cashier experience in a high-volume retail or hospitality business.
A positive attitude, strong time management skills, and commitment to teamwork.
Texas Food Handlers Certification (must be obtained within 30 days of hire).

Required: High School or equivalent
Experience:

Certification:
Required: Must obtain a current Texas Food Handlers Certification within 30 days of entry into job.
