Actalent Regional Sales Engineer (Remote) in Houston, Texas
Job Description
The Regional Sales Engineer drives growth across an assigned Gulf Coast territory by combining strong technical expertise with proactive business development and relationship management. This role involves frequent travel to customer sites and close collaboration with regional sales leadership and manufacturer’s representatives to execute a targeted sales strategy. The Regional Sales Engineer provides technical consultation and presentations on valves, pumps, and related engineered products, ensuring solutions align with industry safety and design standards while supporting long-term customer partnerships.
Responsibilities
Travel regularly within the assigned territory, dedicating approximately 50–60% of working time to on-site customer visits and territory coverage.
Work closely with in-territory regional managers to implement sales strategies that align with overall group goals and objectives.
Support and develop Manufacturer’s Representative companies in assigned territories, providing ongoing technical and commercial guidance.
Conduct territory market research and analysis to identify trends, opportunities, and competitive activity.
Track projects and determine target accounts to build a robust pipeline and drive sustainable sales growth.
Collaborate with the Regional Sales Manager to provide continuous technical development and training to the representative network.
Identify and qualify new business opportunities to support territory sales growth objectives.
Conduct a mix of in-person and virtual customer visits at plant sites, corporate offices, and engineering firms.
Deliver technical presentations and consultations on product applications, including valves, pumps, and related technical solutions.
Become thoroughly familiar with all relevant safety and design standards, including but not limited to API 2000, API 2521, API 12 series, NFPA 68, NFPA 69, NFPA 30, NFPA 497, ISO 28300, and ISO 16852.
Regularly report territory plans, objectives, activities, and opportunities to the Regional Sales Manager.
Visit and support regional trade show events within the territory, representing the company and its product offerings.
Build and maintain strong relationships with key accounts and stakeholders at multiple business levels to support long-term business development.
Leverage technical knowledge and market insights to position products effectively against competitors and meet customer requirements.
Perform other related duties as assigned, including potential international travel when required.
Essential Skills
At least 3 years of experience as an outside sales engineer or in a similar technical outside sales role.
Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a closely related technical discipline.
Proven experience in outside sales of technical product lines, preferably involving valves, pumps, or engineered equipment.
Demonstrated ability to travel extensively and meet with key accounts to drive business development and sales.
Experience in technical sales with the ability to understand and communicate complex product applications.
Strong key account management skills with a track record of building and maintaining long-term customer relationships.
Excellent presentation skills with the ability to deliver clear and compelling technical presentations to diverse audiences.
Strong verbal and written communication skills to engage effectively at plant, corporate, and engineering levels.
Ability to conduct market research, analyze territory data, and track projects to support strategic sales planning.
Capability to learn and apply relevant industry safety and design standards such as API, NFPA, and ISO standards.
Willingness and ability to travel 50–60% of the time within the assigned territory and occasionally internationally.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Experience working in industries such as petrochemical, oil and gas, or cryogenic/refrigerated bulk storage of gases is an advantage.
Regional sales experience managing a Manufacturer’s Representative network is preferred.
Background as a mechanical engineer, chemical engineer, application engineer, or similar technical role is beneficial.
Proven success in business development and territory growth within a technical product environment.
Strong relationship-building skills at multiple organizational levels, including plant, engineering, and corporate stakeholders.
Comfort working in both in-person and virtual selling environments, including remote technical consultations.
Self-motivated, goal-oriented approach with the ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with a broader sales team.
Interest in continuous learning and technical development to stay current with industry standards and applications.
Work Environment
The role is based in an easy-going manufacturing office environment with a supportive, growth-focused culture that offers in-depth training, high retention, and significant opportunities for professional advancement. The territory covers the Gulf Coast region, including Texas and Louisiana, and requires frequent travel to heavy industrial facilities such as petrochemical plants, oil and gas sites, and gas storage operations. The Regional Sales Engineer spends a substantial portion of time on the road visiting customer plants, corporate offices, and engineering companies, as well as attending regional trade shows. The position combines office-based work for planning, reporting, and virtual meetings with field-based activities in industrial settings, where appropriate safety and site-specific attire are required. Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $90000.00 - $100000.00/yr.
