The Process Automation Application Engineer is responsible for designing, applying, and supporting automation solutions for industrial process applications, with a strong emphasis on process instrumentation (Continuous Gas Analyzers). This role partners closely with customers, sales, and project teams to translate process requirements into reliable, safe, and efficient automation architectures. The engineer serves as a technical expert in Continuous Gas Analyzers selection, control strategies, and system integration across process industries.
We are looking for a Process Automation Application Engineer. This position will be based in Houston, TX.
You’ll make an impact by:
Serve as a technical authority on process instrumentation including continuous gas analyzers, pressure, flow, temperature, level, analytical, and valve technologies
Design and apply automation solutions involving DCS, PLC, SCADA, and related control systems
Develop instrumentation specifications, I/O lists, datasheets, and control narratives based on process requirements
Support front-end engineering, application design, and proposal development for automation projects
Collaborate with customers to understand process challenges and recommend optimized instrumentation and control strategies
Perform instrument sizing, selection, and application reviews to ensure accuracy, reliability, and safety
Provide technical support during system configuration and commissioning
Interface with sales and project teams to ensure technical alignment and risk mitigation
Support troubleshooting and optimization of installed automation and instrumentation systems
Ensure solutions comply with applicable industry standards, safety requirements, and best practices (ISA, IEC, NEC, SIL, etc.)
You’ll win us over by having the following qualifications:
Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Instrumentation Engineering, or related field
5+ years of experience in process automation and instrumentation applications
Strong working knowledge of process instrumentation technologies, continuous gas analyzers and measurement principles
Experience with control systems (DCS, PLC, SCADA) in process industries
Ability to read and develop P&IDs, loop diagrams, and control documentation
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts to customers and internal stakeholders
Legally authorized to work in the United States on a continual and permanent basis without company sponsorship
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in process industries such as oil & gas, chemicals, power, food & beverage, or life sciences
Familiarity with safety instrumented systems (SIS) and SIL applications
Knowledge of fieldbus, HART, and digital instrumentation protocols
Experience supporting proposals, front-end engineering design (FEED), or capital projects
