Smurfit Westrock Machine Helper in Houston, Texas
Responsible for assisting the operator in all activities associated with running the printing press including setup, operation, cleanup, and recommending improvements to operations.
Assist with set-up of rails, print, and die cut section on machine accurately in accordance with proper setup techniques
Assist with inspecting all dies before and after run to ensure that any necessary repairs are made before the next run
Help to ensure all bolts for cutting dies are in place and tightly secured
Monitor box quality, including, but not limited to, loose liner, warp, correct size, and print
Help check anilox rolls for damage
Maximize the utilization of equipment by operating the machinery at available capacity and speed
Assist with job duties on the machine
Cross-train on other machines
Complete necessary reports in an accurate and timely manner, including but not limited to: Production Data, Machine Operational Status, Safety Data, Quality Data
Switch duties with other helpers as necessary
Comply with all company policies and procedures, including safety and maintaining good housekeeping
Adheres to production schedule.
Learn relevant local and company requirements, rules and procedures. Strictly follows rules and guidelines and always uses the right procedure for the job. Promptly reports incidents, near-misses, and unsafe conditions or processes. SWR employees regardless of level, position or tenure are responsible for upholding the safety standards regulations and policies.
May be assigned to other projects and duties
High school diploma or GED.
Prior work experience in the corrugated industry, preferred
6 months\u2019 experience as a Press Department Helper, preferred
6 months\u2019 experience in the Press and Finishing Department, preferred
Able to read and follow instructions on factory masters
Able to read a tape measure with speed and accuracy. Able to calculate figures and amounts such as percentages, measurement, volume and rate. Able to apply concepts of high school math.
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or graphic form. Ability to deal with problems involving one or more concrete variables in standardized situations.
The individual must have a working knowledge of the following:
Equipment design and capabilities that can be translated into efficient operation.
Product layouts and production specifications
Product quality specifications
Capable of prioritizing multiple tasks, show sense of urgency
Able to provide and communicate sound information to Management
To successfully perform the essential functions of this role it requires the ability to: stand occasionally, walk frequently, frequent use of hands (reach with hands and arms), view computer monitor, use telephone, speak and listen frequently.
