Job Information
Aerotek Level 2 NDT Inspector-temporary in Houston, Texas
Job Title: NDT Inspector
Job Description
The NDT Inspector will perform non-destructive testing on welded pipe joints and other fabricated materials in a high-volume manufacturing environment. This role focuses on ensuring the quality and integrity of finished welds using multiple NDT methods and documenting results in the ERP system. It is a contract position covering an absence, with strong potential for longer-term opportunities based on performance and business needs.
Responsibilities
Perform non-destructive testing (NDT) on finished welds for pipe joints and other fabricated materials, with approximately 80% of time dedicated to Magnetic Particle (MT) inspection of completed welds and 20% focused on checking weld bevels.
Conduct Magnetic Particle Testing (MT) Level II inspections to identify surface and near-surface discontinuities in welded components.
Perform Ultrasonic Thickness (UT) Level II testing to verify material thickness and detect potential wall loss or inconsistencies, as needed.
Carry out Liquid Penetrant (LP) Level II testing to detect surface-breaking defects on relevant components when required.
Use calipers, micrometers, ultrasonic equipment, and other precision measuring tools to verify dimensions and ensure components meet specified tolerances.
Interpret blueprints, drawings, and specifications to determine inspection requirements and acceptance criteria for welds and fabricated parts.
Generate Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs) and other quality documentation based on inspection results, ensuring accuracy and clarity of findings.
Upload inspection records, NCRs, and related documentation into the ERP system in a timely and organized manner.
Collaborate closely with quality control, welding, and machining teams to communicate inspection results and support corrective actions when nonconformities are identified.
Apply established quality control procedures within a manufacturing setting to maintain consistent inspection standards and compliance with internal and customer requirements.
Maintain inspection tools and NDT equipment in proper working condition and report any issues that could affect inspection quality.
Follow all safety procedures and use required personal protective equipment while working near machining, welding, and material handling operations.
Support continuous improvement efforts by providing feedback on recurring quality issues and potential process enhancements.
Coordinate with the other on-site NDT technician to prioritize inspection tasks and ensure coverage of production needs during the contract period.
Essential Skills
5+ years of hands-on NDT inspection experience in an industrial or manufacturing environment.
Magnetic Particle Testing (MT) Level II certification and practical experience performing MT on welds and fabricated components.
Ultrasonic Thickness Testing (UT) Level II certification and experience conducting UT thickness measurements.
Liquid Penetrant Testing (LP) Level II certification and experience performing LP inspections.
Proven quality control experience in a manufacturing setting, such as a weld shop or machine shop.
Strong ability to generate accurate Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs) and inspection documentation.
Experience working with ERP systems to upload and manage inspection and quality records.
Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints and technical drawings.
Skilled in using precision measuring tools such as calipers and micrometers.
Solid understanding of non-destructive testing and examination principles (NDT/NDE), including methods such as MT, UT, LP, and UTT.
Ability to work effectively in a loud, heavy industrial environment and near large machinery and cranes.
Strong attention to detail, with the ability to identify defects and nonconformities accurately.
Good communication skills to clearly convey inspection results and collaborate with production and quality teams.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Extensive NDT experience beyond the minimum requirement is highly valued.
Extensive quality control experience specifically in a weld shop or machine shop environment.
Experience performing dimensional inspections and verifying measurements against specifications.
Familiarity with large, heavy components typical of the pipeline and PVF (pipe, valves, flanges) industry.
Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) credential is a strong plus.
Comfort working with non-destructive testing equipment, ultrasonic instruments, and related inspection technologies.
Ability to thrive in a fast-paced production environment where workloads can fluctuate with business demand.
Why Work Here?
You will join a stable, growing manufacturing organization that invests in its people and creates opportunities for high performers, even in contract roles. The culture emphasizes a family-oriented, tight-knit atmosphere within each department, where teams support one another and take pride in their work. The company regularly organizes employee appreciation events, such as catered lunches and special treat days, to recognize hard work and build camaraderie. When business is strong, there is ample opportunity to stay busy and earn consistent hours, while leadership strives to balance workloads and respect personal time, especially across different shifts.
Work Environment
The role is based in a large, older manufacturing facility that has been renovated and organized into distinct areas, including shipping, receiving, and a large machining shop. The environment includes overhead cranes and jib cranes at every machining station to move large, heavy parts. The shop is loud and open-air, and it is not climate controlled, though large fans help circulate air throughout the workspace. You will work near the machine shop and weld shop, but not directly inside them, and you will interact with a diverse workforce across machining, welding, and warehouse operations. There will be one other NDT technician on site during your shift, in addition to the technician who is currently on leave. The dress code requires steel-toe footwear, jeans, a work shirt, and safety glasses, with additional PPE as needed. First shift typically runs from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (with the possibility of 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.), and usually offers around 40–45 hours per week, with overtime and weekend work depending on production needs. Second shift generally runs Monday through Friday from 4:00 p.m. to 1:00 a.m., with occasional Saturdays; efforts are made to limit excessive weekend work by providing more hours during the week.
