Position Summary:
We are seeking an experienced IT Internal Audit and Internal Controls Consultant to join our growing consulting team in the Greater Houston area. This role is perfect for a technically skilled professional with strong IT SOX compliance expertise who enjoys working in a dynamic, client-facing environment.
Essential Duties:
· Lead and execute IT SOX 404 compliance testing, including design and operating effectiveness testing of IT General Controls (ITGC) and Application Controls.
· Perform IT business process walkthroughs and risk assessments for key financial systems and automated controls.
· Evaluate IT controls across platforms, including ERP systems (SAP, Oracle, Workday, etc.), databases, operating systems, and cloud environments.
· Identify control deficiencies, perform root cause analysis, and provide practical remediation recommendations.
· Support clients with IT internal audit projects, control optimization, cybersecurity assessments, and process improvement initiatives.
· Document testing results, findings, and management responses in clear, concise workpapers and reports.
· Collaborate with client IT, finance, and compliance teams, as well as external auditors, to ensure timely and effective SOX compliance.
· Stay current with evolving regulatory requirements (PCAOB, SEC, NIST, COBIT, etc.) and best practices in IT controls and cybersecurity.
Qualifications:
· Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, Accounting, Computer Science, or related field (CISA, CISSP, CPA, or CIA preferred).
· Minimum 5 years of hands-on IT SOX testing experience, including testing of IT General Controls (ITGC), Application Controls, and IT-dependent controls.
· Strong understanding of the COSO framework, COBIT, and SOX 404 IT requirements.
· Experience performing IT risk assessments, control walkthroughs, and evaluating control deficiencies.
· Familiarity with common IT environments (ERP systems, databases, networks, access management, change management, etc.).
· Proven ability to work independently and manage multiple client engagements simultaneously.
Skills and Job-Specific Competencies:
· Experience in energy, manufacturing, or other major Houston-region industries.
· Prior experience with IT internal audit outsourcing or co-sourcing engagements.
· Knowledge of data analytics tools (e.g., ACL, IDEA, Power BI) and their application in IT control testing.
· Experience with cloud computing controls (AWS, Azure, GCP) and cybersecurity frameworks.
· Strong project management and client relationship skills.
Travel Requirements: Must be willing and able to travel locally to client offices in the Greater Houston area regularly.

Salary Range: SolomonEdwards values your unique and individual experience and background. As such, we take a comprehensive approach when determining compensation for our roles. The compensation for this specific role is based on a wide range of factors, including but not limited to education, licensure and certifications, location, experience, and training. A reasonable estimate for the current hourly range for this role is $65 – 75.
