Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled Engineer specializing in Instrumentation and Control for advanced reactor protection systems. This role focuses on ensuring safety and efficiency across various systems, including reactor protection safety-related, augmented quality or regulatory treatment of non-safety systems, and non-safety-related balance of plant systems for advanced reactors in commercial nuclear power plants and test facilities.

Responsibilities

  • Identify, develop, evaluate, and manage engineering solutions for instrumentation and control systems.

  • Apply control theory and mathematical modeling to design control systems with desired behaviors, including control logic functionality, optimization, and closed-loop feedback control algorithms.

  • Prepare designs for reactor protection systems, augmented quality assurance systems, plant investment protection systems, and balance of plant non-safety-related systems.

  • Lead or manage design and related technical scope from front end engineering design to detailed or final design.

  • Prepare and maintain static documents, reports, specifications, databases, and diagrams using data-centric digital tools.

  • Develop dynamic physics-based and logic simulation design and analysis models.

Essential Skills

  • Strong experience in instrumentation and controls, nuclear systems engineering, particularly with Boiling Water Reactor (BWR) control systems.

  • Proficiency in design requirements, specification, and the use of PLC, DCS, IEC standards, and monitoring systems.

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering or equivalent technical degree in relevant fields.

  • 10 years of experience in heavy industries such as nuclear, power, process, marine, oil & gas, military, aerospace, medical, or pharmaceutical.

  • 10 years of experience preparing system design requirements and specifications using digital tools.

  • 10 years of experience preparing diagrams using digital tools and physics-based algorithm development.

  • 5 years of experience with mid-tier programmable logic controllers or top-tier DCS in complex, real-time operating systems.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Excellent proficiency with PC and productivity software such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Project, and Visio.

Work Environment

This position is fully remote with no travel expected, except for possibly infrequent meetings or workshops in Wilmington, NC.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract position based out of Houston, TX.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $90.00 - $109.00/hr.
