Workdays & Hours: Monday – Thursday, 6:30am – 5:00pm, *Subject to change
DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
This individual will plan, coordinate and direct the activities of groups of workers within the field maintenance operations for the Bridge Maintenance Section. Will ensure that employees have adequate work supplies and properly functioning equipment to perform assigned tasks. Analyze and resolve staff, equipment and operating problems and recommend changes to increase efficiency. Prepare, coordinate, update, and/or refer work orders to the appropriate entity. Creates work orders for every job that will be performed by your direct reports, review each work order to ensure completeness and accuracy. Inputs all recorded information into IMS, track and close all completed work orders daily. Monitors and evaluate work crews' performance daily. Reviews operations policies and procedures; Trains new employees. Oversees preventive maintenance of assigned vehicles, equipment and tools. Provides leadership to subordinates and motivational tools needed to promote growth within the organization. Assist with daily operations tasks as needed; drives city vehicle.
WORKING CONDITIONS
This position routinely requires lifting of moderately heavy items (up to 40 pounds) and/or very long periods of walking on rough surfaces on a routine basis. There are routine exposures to significant levels of heat, cold, moisture/wetness and air pollution. The position may involve periodic exposure to chemical substances and physical trauma of a minor nature such as cuts, bruises and minor burns.
This is a Houston Public Works Emergency Management position at the Tier I Level.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Requires a high school diploma or a GED.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Four years of progressively responsible work experience in the maintenance field are required.
A Bachelor's degree in a related field may be substituted for the experience required.
LICENSE REQUIREMENTS
Requires a valid Texas driver’s license and compliance with the City of Houston’s policy on driving (AP 2-2).
PREFERENCES
Preference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such people possess the qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for, such people are among the most qualified candidates for the position, and all other factors in accordance with Executive Order 1-6.
Preference will be given to individuals with experience in maintenance and heavy machine operation.
