POSITION OVERVIEW

Workdays & Hours: Monday - Friday 7:30AM to 4:00PM*

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES / ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
This individual under minimal supervision, performs routine field, clerical and administrative support in the enforcement of and implementation of adapted City of Houston ordinances, facilitate in abatements, may testify in court proceedings and or administrative hearings, performs special assignments as requested.
RESPONSIBILITIES (include but not limited to)
Enforcement of Chapter 10 of the City of Houston's Code of Ordinances.
Performs routine inspections of sites to enforce ordinances concerning high grass and weeds, junk and/or abandoned vehicles and dangerous buildings.
Responds to routine inquiries from the general public, civic groups, contractors, technical professionals and businesses.
Maintain files of records, reports and documentation of inspections and enforcement activities.
May perform other general office activities as required and additional duties as assigned.
WORKING CONDITION
There are routine minor discomforts from exposure to less-than-optimal temperature and air conditions. The position may involve dealing with modestly unpleasant situations, such as with occasional exposure to office chemicals and/or extensive use of video display terminals. The position routinely requires lifting of moderately heavy items, such as computers or record boxes (up to 40 pounds) and/or very long periods of walking on rough surfaces on a routine basis.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Requires a high school diploma or a GED certificate.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
One year of experience related to code enforcement inspection is required.
LICENSE REQUIREMENTS
Requires a code enforcement license issued by the Texas Department of State Health Services.
Requires a valid state issued driver's license and compliance with the City of Houston's policy on driving.
PREFERENCES
*Preference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such persons possess the qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for, such persons are among the most qualified candidates for the position, and all other factors in accordance with Executive Order 1-6. *
GENERAL INFORMATION

This position is subject to random drug testing and if a promotional position, the candidate must pass an assignment drug test.
