DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The Assistant Public Works Maintenance Manager is responsible for directing and managing Utility Billing special projects related to meter repairs/replacement, maintenance, overseeing contractors, quality control, compliance, remediation, including but not limited to the following:
Plans, organizes, schedules, directs, and reviews various operations to ensure implementation and completion.
Coordinate work plans and work collaboratively with technicians, supervisors, contractors, departments, and outside agencies to ensure timely completion and accuracy of services rendered.
Reviews and critiques methods and procedures regularly to maintain and improve efficient operations; evaluates individual and team performance and makes or recommends needed improvements.
Maintains records and reports of work scheduled and accomplished.
Provides input for decision-making and planning.
Provides oversight of special projects and contractors ensuring real time resolutions.
Monitor day-to-day field operations to ensure quality control, compliance and increased efficiency.
Make data driven decisions that improve project timelines, reduce project delays and costs overruns, enhance coordination and accountability while minimizing operational risks.
Increase efficiency, service reliability, and long-term performance for Meter Operations.
The position will function under the guidance of the Assistant Director of Meter Operations.

WORKING CONDITIONS
A portion of these duties will involve the ability to be detailed, speak and write effectively. There are no major sources of discomfort. Requires the ability to make simple gross motor responses within large tolerances. The position is physically comfortable; the individual has discretion about walking, standing, etc.
This is a Department of Houston Public Works position at the Tier 2 Level.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Requires the ability and knowledge for analysis and interpretation of procedures, policies and practices attainable through specific education and/or training programs in a specialty or technical field. Requires advanced vocational or electronic skills or a basic knowledge of a professional field. An Associate's degree or certification/licensing in a technical specialty program of over 18 months and up to 3 years duration are characteristic of this level.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Six years of experience closely related to meter operations and project management.
Directly related professional experience may be substituted for the education requirement on a year-for-year basis.
LICENSE REQUIREMENTS
Requires a valid Texas driver's license and compliance with the City of Houston's policy on driving.
PREFERENCES
Preference will be given to candidates who display well developed analytical, critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Ideal candidate will possess an understanding of Meter Operations. Preferred candidate will also have a background in utility billing, meter operations, local city government, process improvement and project management.
Preference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such persons possess the qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for, such persons are among the most qualified candidates for the position, and all other factors in accordance with Executive Order 1-6.
