MD Anderson Cancer Center Assistant Pharmacy Manager - Consolidated Services Center in Houston, Texas

The Assistant Pharmacy Manager role represents a key expansion of our centralized pharmacy operations and will support continued growth in automation, inventory optimization, and service efficiency across the system. The Assistant Pharmacy Manager will partner closely with CSC leadership, inpatient and outpatient pharmacy teams, and supply chain operations to ensure safe, timely, and reliable medication distribution.

Ideal candidates will bring demonstrated strength in the following areas:

  • *Pharmacy Purchasing *of critical medications and essential supplies.

  • Critical data analysis to drive operational efficiency, forecasting, and continuous improvement.

  • Automation oversight, including systems supporting Pyxis replenishment workflows and accuracy checks.

  • Management of physical inventory and expertise with inventory management software solutions.

  • Effective staff leadership, including coaching, development, scheduling, and workflow optimization.

  • Troubleshooting complex logistics issues, including distribution challenges, system integration problems, and process bottlenecks.

Working hours: The working hours for this position will be 8:00am - 4:30pm.

Job Specific Competencies

*Pharmacy Area Supervision/ Responsibilities *a. Supervises staff to assure safe and appropriate medication preparation and distribution, including but not limited to sterile and non-sterile compounding.

b. Assists in interviewing and training new staff.

c. Assures appropriate staffing in area through adequate scheduling.

d. Completes employee evaluations in a timely manner.

e. Evaluates and compiles personnel documentation in a timely manner.

f. Promotes and maintains a professional work environment.

g. Conducts quarterly one-on-one meetings with direct reports.

h. Maintains competency to provide core pharmaceutical services, including but not limited to, order verification, utilizing drug information for clinical decisions, actively reporting and responding to UHC Safety Intelligence events, and provision of staffing coverage as needed.

i. Manage pharmacy purchasing

j. Managing Pharmacy inventory processes and procedures

Quality Assurance/ Improvement and Project Management

a. Monitors assigned area for environmental deficiencies, such as lighting and electrical needs or breach of exit/entrance.

b. Monitors areas for weekly and monthly QA.

c. Assures that QA/CQI is consistently performed and documented.

d. Visually evaluates needs of the area and delegates projects to subordinates or completes the necessary tasks.

Leadership

a. Monitors area workflow to assure that all jobs are performed in a timely manner; adjust or shift staff as needed.

b. Works with staff to evaluate and implement change in the area.

c. Works with nursing and other departments to evaluate service needs.

d. Leads by example in behavior and work ethic. Works toward win-win solutions to patient and staff issues or concerns.

e. Takes initiative to learn new procedures and begin integrating new procedures into production with minimal supervisory intervention. Develops, records and implements policies and procedures when necessary.

f. Educates and promotes staff professional development.

*Education: *Bachelor of Science degree in Pharmacy or Pharm.D. degree from an accredited college of pharmacy. Successful completion of the Leading Self Accelerate program may substitute for one year of required supervisory or management experience.

*Preferred Education: *Doctorate (Professional)

*Certification: *All the following:

Texas State Board of Pharmacy Pharmacist license within 90 days of job entry. American Heart Association (AHA) Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification within 90 days of job entry, if working in one of following departments: Pharmacy Inpatient (710348), Pharmacy ATC ACB (710355), Pharmacy-West Houston (710657)

Pharmacy-The Woodlands (710480).

*Preferred Certification: *Basic Life Support (BLS (, Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)

*Experience: *Two years of related Pharmacist or Clinical Pharmacist experience.

*Preferred Experience: *Prior management experience or Pharmacy Administrative residency
