Summary Serves as the International Space Station (ISS) Environmental Control and Life Support (ECLS) Systems Manager within the Crew and Thermal Systems Division. Responsible for the technical oversight of the Air Revitalization, Pressure Control, Emergency Hardware, Waste Management, and other sub-systems. Lead a team of highly skilled engineers in providing technical authority over prime and sub-prime contractor activities, government furnished equipment, and mission evaluation. Responsibilities Oversees technical progress and operations of the Environmental Control and Life Support Systems (ECLSS) on the International Space Station (ISS) including Air Revitalization, Pressure Control, Emergency Hardware, and other sub-systems. Oversees Prime and Sub-Prime contractor activities related to design, development, operational, and sustaining engineering of ISS Program requirements for ISS ECLSS hardware and sub-systems. Assists in preparing and formulating flight support products for mission evaluation activities of the ISS. Works on and delegates ECLSS activities related to evaluation and resolution of technical issues at the component, sub-system, and system level. Provides technical leadership, mentorship, and effective delegation of responsibilities, while developing and coordinating assignments across the entire ISS ECLSS System Management team to ensure alignment, performance, and mission success. Communicates technical issues, concerns, and any other technical authority topics to both programmatic customers and engineering management. To qualify for GS-15, you must have one year of directly related specialized experience equivalent to the GS-14 level: Leading or managing a system management team to execute insight or oversight responsibilities for program hardware and sub-systems activities; Supporting the Technical Authority role by ensuring technical compliance, effective risk management, and alignment with program requirements; Providing technical leadership in systems engineering, overseeing hardware and test system performance to guarantee full operational capability and program compliance. Education Basic Education Requirement: You must have successfully completed a bachelor's degree with a major in one of the following: a) Engineering from a college or university that has ABET accredited engineering programs b) Physical Science, Mathematics, Life Science or other field of Science c) Computer Science that included 30 semester hours or 45 quarter hours of course work in any combination of mathematics, statistics and computer science with at least half of those hours in mathematics and statistics courses that included differential and integral calculus; and that provided an in-depth knowledge of theoretical and practical applications of computer science, including digital computer system architecture and system software organization, the representation and transformation of information structures, and the theoretical models for such representations and transformations. If you did not complete a qualifying bachelor's degree, you may be eligible if you have obtained a graduate degree in an AST qualifying field, as listed above. Degrees in engineering technology are not considered qualifying for this position.
