*The Retail Pharmacy team *at MD Anderson provides convenient, patient-centered medication services designed to support individuals throughout their cancer care journey. This team works closely with clinical providers to ensure patients have timely access to prescriptions, clear medication counseling, and compassionate support. Known for its efficiency, accuracy, and commitment to service excellence, the Retail Pharmacy team plays a vital role in helping patients and caregivers navigate treatment with confidence and ease.

The Ideal candidate for the Advanced Pharmacy Technician - Retail role is an experienced pharmacy professional with at least three years of technician experience in a hospital, infusion center, or retail pharmacy. They meet the required education standards with a high school diploma and ideally bring advanced training through a pharmacy technician program or associate degree.

They are skilled in medication preparation, dispensing, and patient service, and they bring added value through experience training staff and contributing in a leadership capacity. This candidate is detail-oriented, dependable, and committed to supporting safe, high-quality patient care in alignment with MD Anderson's mission.

The working hours for this position will be an Dayshift - 7:00am - 5:30p.

Job Competencies

  1. Medication Preparation and Distribution

• Accurately and efficiently fill cart fill and first doses

• Accurately and efficiently pull medications to refill controlled access cabinets

• Accurately and efficiently deliver medications and supplies to designated areas

• Accurately and efficiently prepare all types of sterile products, including SVP, LVP, chemotherapy, biotherapy, and investigational agents

• Accurately and efficiently prepare high-risk sterile products

• Accurately and efficiently prepare extemporaneous compounds

• Accurately and efficiently repackage bulk medications

  1. Inventory Management

• Accurately and efficiently order medications and supplies

• Accurately and efficiently receive and restock medications and supplies

• Accurately and efficiently complete cycle counts and inventory audits

• Remove expired or soon-to-expire medications in a timely manner

• Ensure medication security and accountability at all times

• Monitor area inventory and supplies, and notify appropriate personnel when shortages or outages are noted

Education

Required: High School Diploma or equivalent.

License/Certification

Required: Current Pharmacy Technician Registration with the Texas State Board of Pharmacy (TSBP).

Preferred: Current Certification with the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB). Current Intravenous Medication Certification (IV-Sterile Products) approved by the Accreditation Counsel for Pharmacy Education (ACPE).

Experience

  • Required:* Three years' pharmacy technician experience in a hospital, infusion center, or retail pharmacy.

Preferred: Pharmacy experience training staff and experience in a leadership role.

This position may be responsible for maintaining the security and integrity of critical infrastructure, as defined in Section 113.001(2) of the Texas Business and Commerce Code and therefore may require routine reviews and screening. The ability to satisfy and maintain all requirements necessary to ensure the continued security and integrity of such infrastructure is a condition of hire and continued employment.
