The Queen's Health Systems Director, HR Business Partners (Full Time, 40, Day) in Honolulu, Hawaii

RESPONSIBILITIES

I. JOB SUMMARY

The Director functions at a high organizational level, providing leadership and direction in the development and implementation of strategic and innovative initiatives that advance the mission of The Queen’s Health Systems (QHS). This leader anticipates needs, solves complex challenges, and ensures seamless, high‑quality HR operations across the system.

With exceptional skill in collaboration and influence, the Director facilitates partnerships across departments, promotes teamwork and results‑driven performance, and contributes significantly to patient care quality and service excellence. Reporting to an executive leader and accountable to the System Leadership Council, the Director delivers outcomes aligned with annual goals approved by the Board of Trustees. This role honors and supports the heritage and mission established by Queen Emma and King Kamehameha IV.

Area(s) of Assignment:

This role leads the strategy, direction, and coordination of the system‑wide Human Resources Business Partner (HRBP) team. Responsibilities include transforming HRBP structures and processes through change management, project management, and continuous improvement methodologies.

Working closely with senior leaders and HR Centers of Excellence, the Director designs and implements HR initiatives that advance business goals and system‑wide strategies within a unionized environment. This leader ensures operational alignment across entities, integrates modern HR practices into business operations, promotes organizational change, strengthens employee‑management relationships, and oversees day‑to‑day labor relations.

IV. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

A. Education:

• Bachelor’s degree required; preferred fields include Human Resources, Business or Health Administration, Communications, Psychology, or related disciplines.

B. Certification & Licensure:

• Advanced degree and/or HR certifications (e.g., SHRM‑CP, SHRM‑SCP, PHR, SPHR, Organizational Design/Development certifications) preferred.

C. Experience:

  • Five or more years of experience leading people

  • Three (3) or more years of human resources experience, including experience working in at least two (2) human resource disciplines (i.e. employee relations, talent management acquisition, compensation, benefits, organizational development, labor relations, etc).

  • Two (2) or more years of managing multiple departments/functions, preferably in a comparable health care setting.

V. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Five or more years of Human Resources experience

  • Two or more years leading a function/department and engaged in strategic and financial planning, budgeting, business planning, and personnel management.
