Queen's Health System Data Scientist - CORE (TEMPORARY, Call-in Day) in Honolulu, Hawaii
RESPONSIBILITIES
I. JOB SUMMARY:
• Works independently in the design, development, and deployment of predictive analytics within the data warehouse, which includes the integration of algorithms into existing analytic solutions.
• Designs, develops, and deploys natural language processing capabilities that leverage both rules-based and machine learning-based approaches and embeds capabilities within analytic applications.
• Contributes to clinical and operational performance improvement initiatives through activities such as data analysis and support, dashboard and metric development, and clinical disease cohort and registry building.
• The data domains covered across The Queen’s Health Systems include but are not limited to clinical, financial, ambulatory, population health; social determinates of health, and patient/provider experience data.

IV. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
A. EDUCATION:
• Bachelor's degree in information technology (IT), data science, analytics, healthcare, epidemiology, statistics or related field; or four (4) years’ experience in data science, including development, implementation, and optimization of machine learning and predictive modeling algorithms, and complex data analysis may be substituted for the educational requirement..
• Master's degree or doctorate degree preferred.
B. CERTIFICATION AND LICENSURE:
• No certification and/or licensure requirement.
C. EXPERIENCE:
• In addition to the educational requirement, three (3) years related IT experience in the following:
o Extensive knowledge of practices, policies, and systems.
o Demonstrated application of information technology data and programming principles, theories, concepts, and best practices (e.g. requirements documentation, source code control, change management, promotions, segregation of duties).
o Advanced tenants of Relational Database Management Systems (RDBMS) principles, processes, technologies and tools including management, reporting and visualization of data.
o Hand coded Structured Query Language (SQL) query development.
o Database object development, including tables and views, stored procedures, user defined functions, and check constraints.
o Extensive understanding and application of data analysis and statistics.
• Experience to demonstrate the following:
o Fluency in healthcare data.
o Knowledge of machine learning and predictive analytics.
o Ability to write and produce R and/or Python code.
o Ability to lead and mentor other team members.
o Effective written and verbal communication and presentation skills.
o Strong sense of customer service to consistently and effectively address business and clinical partners’ needs.
o Comfortable with ambiguity and changing priorities and direction in projects and core work.
o Ability to participate in a collaborative work environment partnering with colleagues inside and outside of own department.
o Self-motivated; comfortable working independently under general direction.
o Knowledge of causal inference techniques preferred.
o Hands on experience with Extract, Transform, and Load (ETL) applications preferred.
o Familiarity with development methodologies including SDLC, and AGILE preferred.
• Experience with health care regulatory and clinical quality measurements frameworks such as NCQA HEDIS, Meaningful Use, PQRS, OPPE, CORE measures, etc. preferred.
• Experience with QlikView or other similar visualization and analysis tools (e.g. Tableau) preferred.
• Experience with data driven web application development, e.g. ASP.net preferred.
• Experience in software engineering preferred.
• Experience with natural language processing preferred.
