We’re looking for an Economic Data News Editor to join our Asia-Pacific Economic Data News team, focusing primarily on Japan’s economic data and releases. This is a unique role at the intersection of journalism, economics and technology, where you’ll cover the numbers that move global markets.

In this role, you’ll play a key part in delivering fast, accurate coverage of Japan’s major economic indicators — from GDP and inflation to Bank of Japan decisions — for a global audience. You’ll work closely with colleagues in Tokyo and across the region.

This role offers the chance to make a direct impact in one of Bloomberg’s most visible functions: You’ll be shaping how millions of people understand Japan’s economic trajectory and key data releases. You’ll also be working at the forefront of AI and automation in real-time news.

This role can be located in Tokyo, Hong Kong or Sydney.

We'll trust you to:

• Report on key economic indicators with speed, accuracy, and insight

• Survey economists to compile forecasts for major releases across Asia

• Work closely with reporters, data analysts, product managers, and technologists to improve coverage and processes

• Use and experiment with AI tools and automation to make reporting faster and richer

• Find new ways to collect, process, and present data for real-time insights

• Share ideas that help Bloomberg explain macroeconomic trends to a global audience

You'll need to have:

• At least 3 years of experience in journalism, economics, finance, data analysis, or product development

• A working knowledge of Excel VBA

• Fluency in written and spoken English and Japanese

• Ability to stay calm and precise under deadline pressure

• Curiosity about how economies work, how data drives decisions, and how new technologies like AI can improve reporting

• Evidence of steady career growth within an organization

We'd love to see:

• Familiarity with the Bloomberg Terminal

• Experience in real-time or financial news environments

• A passion for telling stories through numbers
