Media Technology Operations is a group that is passionate about building and supporting technology to enable storytellers to connect, entertain and inform audiences everywhere. The Hong Kong MTO Live Production team focuses on supporting the technology needs of the CNN Hong Kong newsroom and studios.
We are seeking a proactive and highly skilled Broadcast Production Engineer to join our team in a fast-paced news environment. In this role, you will provide operational support for broadcast and IT equipment and infrastructure. You will be responsible for ensuring smooth operations, troubleshooting issues, and contributing to the continuous improvement of our systems.
Your Role Accountabilities...
Operational Support: Utilize your expertise to provide operational support for broadcast and IT equipment and infrastructure within an on-air and fast-paced news environment. Respond promptly to incidents and resolve them efficiently to minimize downtime and ensure uninterrupted broadcasting.
Shift Work: Work various shift patterns, including late finishes and weekends, as our operations run round the clock. Embrace the expectation of covering shift work as a standard part of the role.
High-Pressure Situations: Demonstrate the ability to work independently and as part of a team in high-pressure situations, particularly during breaking news situations.
Project Initiatives: Proactively identify problems, equipment renewal needs, and opportunities for expanding the broadcast and IT infrastructure. Design and initiate projects that address these requirements, contributing to the improvement and growth of our systems.
5: Production and Computer hardware: Install and configure computer hardware, operating systems, and applications. Utilize a wide range of computer-based tools to interact with the production infrastructure environment at all levels. Ensure the systems are properly maintained and updated to optimize performance and security.
Collaboration and Communication: Foster strong working relationships with local and remote support teams across broadcast and IT areas. Maintain subject-matter expertise and actively communicate with stakeholders and the engineering team through effective shift handovers and knowledge sharing to keep everyone informed of the latest developments.
Training and Self-Growth: Identify suitable training opportunities and areas for self-growth to stay up to date with industry advancements and emerging technologies. Continuously enhance your skills and knowledge to contribute effectively to the team's success.
Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Protection: Work closely with cybersecurity specialists to proactively secure enterprise and broadcast infrastructure. Stay vigilant and implement appropriate measures to safeguard systems and data from potential threats.
Logging and Monitoring: Initiate and maintain various logging and monitoring tools to ensure optimal system performance. Identify opportunities to leverage technology for business enablement and efficiency gains.
ITIL Process: Organize and facilitate upgrades within a formal ITIL process to ensure standardized and efficient implementation of system changes. Adhere to established procedures and documentation practices.
Technology Asset Management: Support technology logistics and asset management by tracking technology assets and ensuring adequate spares are maintained to meet business needs. Contribute to keeping the team organized and efficient in their operations.
Additional Responsibilities: Perform assigned tasks and other duties as necessary to support the smooth functioning of the broadcast and IT operations.
Experiences/Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in a relevant field or equivalent work experience.
Proven experience in supporting broadcast and IT equipment and infrastructure, preferably in a high-pressure news environment.
Strong knowledge of computer hardware, operating systems, and applications.
Familiarity with a variety of computer-based tools used in a production infrastructure environment.
Excellent communication and collaboration skills to effectively work with cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
Proactive mindset with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
Knowledge of cybersecurity principles and best practices is highly desirable.
Familiarity with ITIL processes and methodologies is a plus.
An understanding that we support a news organisation that is on-air 24 hours every day.
A flexibility to work a shift pattern which may include unsociable working hours.
Working in supporting newsgathering may require infrequent international travel for engineering support.
You will need to be passionate about wanting to pursue a career in technology with an interest in news media.
