The Role
The Senior Transaction Tax Analyst plays an essential role within the Tax Department. This position ensures timely and compliant tax billing to clients or internal stakeholders, reconciles tax charges, and assists in resolving billing discrepancies predominantly for United States indirect taxation. The ideal candidate demonstrates an inquisitive nature, strong organizational abilities, attention to detail, and a clear understanding of tax principles as they relate to billing and invoicing within the telecommunications industry.
The Main Responsibilities
Maintain, update, and customize indirect tax software.
Review billing and tax-related invoices for customers ensuring accuracy and compliance with applicable tax regulations.
Reconcile billed tax amounts with supporting documentation and financial records.
Research, analyze, and resolve discrepancies or issues related to tax billing in a timely manner.
Review, resolve, and track notices from taxing jurisdictions, ensuring proper documentation and timely resolution
Monitor and apply changes in tax rates and applications as they affect billing procedures.
Manage tax exemption process within the organization.
Communicate professionally with leadership and internal stakeholders to clarify or resolve tax-related billing inquiries.
Assist with audits by providing requested billing records and tax documentation.
Support the implementation and improvement of tax billing processes and systems for greater efficiency and accuracy using Vertex tax rating software.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including finance, tax, and sales, to ensure coordinated and accurate billing practices.
Research and keep abreast of changes in United States federal, state, and local laws.
Work on projects and ad-hoc assignments as assigned.
What We Look For in a Candidate
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field required.
3+ years of experience in billing, tax compliance, or a similar role with a strong focus on taxation.
Familiarity with United States tax laws and regulations as they pertain to billing.
Advanced skills in Microsoft Office Suite are required, including the ability to create complex Excel formulas, pivot tables, and data visualizations.
Familiarity with computer-related skills, such as Co-Pilot, Alteryx and Power BI.
Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
Excellent attention to detail.
Effective written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines while handling multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
Action-oriented, initiative-taking, and willing to dig into business challenges.
Work effectively independently and as part of a team.
Experience with interpreting and extracting large volumes of tax and/or transaction data from enterprise billing systems.
Preferred:
CPA or Master’s Degree in Taxation
Familiarity with indirect taxation in the telecommunications industry.
Experience with Vertex Communications Tax Software, SAP S/4HANA, SAP ECC, and other ERP systems is a plus.
Strong knowledge of all aspects of transaction tax process including research and planning, compliance, exemptions, taxability, and billing systems is highly desirable.
