Position Summary
The Quality Assurance & Food Safety Manager is responsible for leading the Quality Assurance and Food Safety function at our Holland, MI processing facility. This role ensures product quality, food safety compliance, and the effectiveness of systems that support a controlled manufacturing environment.
This position provides leadership to the QA team, oversees regulatory and certification compliance, and drives continuous improvement through data analysis, auditing, and corrective action processes.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead, develop, and manage the Quality Assurance team, including staffing, training, and performance management
- Oversee lab operations including microbiological testing, environmental swabbing, product testing, and pre-operational inspections
- Ensure compliance with GMPs, GLPs, and all food safety and regulatory requirements
- Develop, implement, and maintain quality systems and documentation for controlled manufacturing processes
- Oversee CAPA programs, including root cause analysis and corrective/preventive actions
- Lead all third-party audits, certifications, and government inspections (including USDA)
- Manage customer complaints, investigations, and resolution processes
- Oversee the Supplier Approval Program and ensure compliance with company standards
- Analyze and report on trends related to complaints, audits, and quality metrics
- Partner cross-functionally with Production, R&D, Customer Service, and Analytical teams
- Stay current with industry best practices, quality systems, and analytical technologies
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in food science, Chemistry, Biology, or related scientific discipline
- Minimum 5 years of quality assurance management experience
- SQF Certification or equivalent experience with a GFSI-recognized scheme
- PCQI Certification required
- Minimum 2 years of USDA regulatory experience
- Strong knowledge of food safety systems, audits, and regulatory compliance
Additional Requirements
- Ability to work in both production and laboratory environments
- Strong sensory skills (taste, aroma, and visual evaluation)
- Ability to use laboratory instrumentation and evaluate product quality
