Job Purpose

The Computer Specialist 2 is a mid-level technical position responsible for the advanced support, maintenance, and optimization of the districts technology ecosystem. This individual handle complex escalations from Tier 1 staff, manages high-impact classroom technology projects, and assists in the administration of network and server environments. As a Computer Specialist II, you are required to have a proactive commitment to Service and Scholarship, ensuring that the districts digital infrastructure is secure, functional, and optimized for student success.

Duties and Responsibilities

Advanced Technical Support & Troubleshooting

Resolve escalated helpdesk tickets involving complex hardware failures, software conflicts, and operating system errors across Windows, ChromeOS, and iOS platforms.

Perform root-cause analysis for recurring technical issues to implement permanent district-wide solutions.

Support administrative staff with specialized software, including Student Information Systems (SIS) and business/HR portals.

Infrastructure & Systems Administration

Assist with the management of Active Directory and Google Admin Console, including the organization of OUs, Group Policy Objects (GPOs), and student/staff permissions.

Monitor and troubleshoot localized network issues, including Wireless Access Points (WAPs), switches, and VoIP phone connectivity.

Assist with managing the districts imaging and deployment server; create and maintain \"Golden Images\" for fleet-wide rollouts.

Monitor, install, and maintain district security cameras and door controllers.

Entry-Level Cybersecurity Monitoring & Support

Utilize security dashboards (e.g., Google Workspace Security Center, EDR Software, AD logs, firewall logs, and endpoint protection) to identify and investigate suspicious login activity or potential malware.

Assist in the deployment of critical security patches across all district workstations and servers to mitigate known vulnerabilities.

Audit user permissions and access logs to ensure the principle of \"Least Privilege\" is maintained regarding sensitive student data.

Act as a first responder for localized security incidents (e.g., a compromised staff account or a lost student device), following established protocols to isolate the threat.

Instructional Technology & AV Management

Lead the installation, configuration, and repair of classroom technology, including Interactive Flat Panels, document cameras, and integrated audio systems.

Ensure all student devices are properly configured for state-mandated standardized testing environments.

Coordinate and execute technology \"Room Moves\" and facility reconfigurations, ensuring all equipment is reinstalled to district standards.

Security & Compliance

Maintain and troubleshoot the districts physical security technology, including IP-based Verkada cameras and electronic door access systems.

Ensure all technical support activities comply with FERPA/CIPA and student data privacy regulations.

Perform regular preventive maintenance (PM) cycles on server room climate control, UPS backups, MDF/IDF air filter replacements, and site-based hardware.

Leadership & Mentorship

Provide technical mentorship to Tier 1 technicians and student workers.

Lead department-specific projects as assigned by the IT Director, keeping detailed progress logs in the teams ongoing project tracker.

Proactively identify facility needs and system inefficiencies before they impact the classroom.

Maintain a high level of Character and Integrity when handling sensitive district data and interacting with staff, students, and parents.

Required Qualifications

Education: Associate degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field (or 5+ years of equivalent professional experience).

Experience: 2-4 years of experience in IT support; K-12 experience is highly preferred.

Certifications: CompTIA A+ and Network+, CompTIA Security+, Google IT Support Professional, or Microsoft Associate certifications preferred.

Technical Knowledge: Proficiency in Google Workspace, Active Directory, and networking (TCP/IP, VLANs, DHCP/DNS). Intermediate knowledge of PC and Mac Hardware/Software. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Professional Suite, Windows Pro Workstation, and Windows Server (current versions). Familiarity with fiber optics, wireless media, and network security protocols.

Clearance: Ability to obtain and maintain a valid Fingerprint Clearance Card.
