Job Title: Machine Operator

Job Description

This role operates and sets up heavy industrial machinery to produce high volumes of quality parts in a modern manufacturing environment. The Machine Operator reads blueprints and precise measurements, performs quality inspections, and uses overhead cranes and other equipment to move materials and support production. The position requires strong attention to detail, safe work practices, and the ability to work with both manual and computer-based systems.

Responsibilities

  • Set up machines to manufacture a high volume of parts to support assembly operations.

  • Operate a mold press machine and other heavy industrial equipment safely and efficiently.

  • Read and interpret blueprints to ensure parts meet specifications.

  • Use a tape measure accurately to 1/16th of an inch during the interview and 1/32nd of an inch on the production floor.

  • Read and use micrometers and calipers to verify dimensions and tolerances.

  • Perform quality inspections and quality checks throughout the production process.

  • Report defective parts and quality concerns promptly to leadership.

  • Operate an overhead crane to move materials onto the line and within the work area.

  • Operate a band saw as needed to support production activities.

  • Follow lockout/tagout procedures to ensure safe machine setup and maintenance.

  • Input production and quality information into computer systems accurately.

  • Collaborate with team members to meet production goals and maintain a safe, organized work area.

  • Adhere to all safety, quality, and operational procedures during each shift.

Essential Skills

  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints.

  • Ability to read a tape measure to 1/16th of an inch during the interview and 1/32nd of an inch on the production floor.

  • Ability to read and use micrometers and calipers.

  • At least 1 year of heavy industrial machine operation experience or related experience.

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

  • Experience performing quality checks and inspections in a production environment.

  • Experience with lockout/tagout safety procedures.

  • Ability to operate and set up production machinery safely.

  • Basic computer skills to input information into computer systems.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • 2 years of brake press experience or heavy industrial machine operation experience.

  • Experience operating a sit-down forklift.

  • Experience with overhead crane operation.

  • Experience operating a band saw in an industrial setting.

  • Experience in production or manufacturing environments.

  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.

  • Ability to work a consistent 2nd shift schedule and overtime as required.

Work Environment

The role is based in a modern, newly expanded manufacturing facility built in 2019. The environment is brand new, climate controlled, clean, and very open, with plenty of room to work and no tight or cramped spaces in departments or work areas. Employees have access to locker bays and are assigned a personal locker to store their belongings. The facility includes a new kitchen and market area where employees can purchase snacks and lunch items, as well as vending machines for additional convenience. The position follows a 2nd shift schedule from 2:00 p.m. to 10:30 p.m., with mandated overtime of up to an hour after every shift and every other Saturday, depending on production needs. Work involves operating heavy industrial machinery, overhead cranes, and related equipment in a safety-focused production environment, with appropriate attire and protective equipment consistent with an industrial manufacturing setting.E

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Hobart, IN.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $16.00 - $19.00/hr.
