Job Title: Maintenance Technician

Job Description

The Maintenance Technician installs, maintains, and repairs a wide range of industrial machines and facility equipment, ensuring safe, reliable, and efficient operation. This role combines mechanical, electrical and hydraulic expertise with strong troubleshooting skills to perform both preventive and emergency maintenance. The technician uses a variety of tools and testing devices, follows established safety procedures, and accurately documents all work performed.

Responsibilities

  • Install, assemble, test, and repair machines and facility equipment, including forklifts, scales, hoists, tools, and other production machinery.

  • Perform preventive maintenance on mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems to minimize downtime and extend equipment life.

  • Respond to and complete emergency repairs on equipment and systems to restore operations quickly and safely.

  • Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, PLC-controlled, hydraulic, and HVAC issues using appropriate testing devices and diagnostic methods.

  • Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical diagrams to identify issues and plan repairs or installations.

  • Use testing devices, hand tools, and power tools safely, correctly, and efficiently during maintenance and repair tasks.

  • Perform welding and fabrication work as needed to repair or modify equipment and structures.

  • Carry out plumbing and basic carpentry tasks related to equipment installation, repair, and facility upkeep.

  • Operate shop equipment such as lathes, mills, arc welders, and acetylene torches to repair or fabricate parts.

  • Service and maintain three-phase power and electrical systems in accordance with applicable standards and safety practices.

  • Maintain and repair hydraulic systems and power transmission components to ensure reliable operation.

  • Support HVAC system maintenance and repair to help maintain appropriate conditions for equipment and operations.

  • Document calibrations, inspections, repairs, and preventive maintenance activities accurately and in a timely manner.

  • Follow all safety rules, lockout/tagout procedures, and company policies while performing maintenance work.

  • Communicate clearly with supervisors and team members about equipment status, repair needs, and work progress.

Essential Skills

  • Proven experience troubleshooting mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and HVAC systems in an industrial or maintenance setting.

  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, electrical schematics, and technical diagrams.

  • Hands-on experience with PLC troubleshooting at the equipment level.

  • Proficiency with electrical systems, including three-phase power.

  • Strong mechanical aptitude, including experience with power transmission components and rotating equipment.

  • Skilled in welding and fabrication for equipment repair and modification.

  • Ability to perform plumbing tasks related to equipment and facility maintenance.

  • Basic carpentry skills to support equipment installation and facility repairs.

  • Experience operating shop equipment such as lathes, mills, arc welders, and acetylene torches.

  • Ability to use testing devices, hand tools, and power tools safely and effectively.

  • Strong attention to detail for documenting calibrations, inspections, and maintenance work.

  • Clear verbal communication skills to collaborate with supervisors and team members.

  • Commitment to following safety rules, procedures, and best practices at all times.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience performing preventive maintenance programs in a manufacturing or industrial environment.

  • Background in servicing power transmission components such as belts, chains, gearboxes, and couplings.

  • Familiarity with HVAC system maintenance and repair in an industrial setting.

  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while managing multiple tasks and priorities.

  • Strong problem-solving skills and a methodical approach to troubleshooting equipment issues.

  • Comfort working with both mechanical and electrical aspects of complex machinery.

Work Environment

The role begins with a structured training period on a Monday–Friday schedule from 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. for approximately six months, allowing you to learn the equipment, systems, and procedures in depth. After training, the position transitions to a 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. schedule on a 2-2-3 rotation, offering predictable long shifts with built-in days off. The facility is non-climate-controlled but maintains a room-temperature environment, and it is described as very clean and well-organized, supporting safe and efficient work. You will work with a variety of industrial tools and equipment, including testing devices, hand and power tools, lathes, mills, welders, and torches, in a professional maintenance shop setting.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Hickory, NC.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $28.00/hr.
