The Court of Administrative Hearings (CAH) seeks to hire a Legal Administrative Assistants in our St. Paul or Duluth office. Final work location, either St. Paul or Duluth, will be determined based on candidate preference. CAH is the largest of three Executive Branch Courts with over 70 full-time employees located in St. Paul and Duluth. CAH has exclusive, bench trial-level jurisdiction in hearings for over 250 state agencies and local units of government in over 200 unique areas of administrative law and is Minnesota's workers' compensation trial court. CAH renders justice through fair, timely and impartial hearings and high-quality dispute resolution services.
The Legal Administrative Assistant position provides high-level legal and administrative support to the judges and staff attorneys of CAH's Administrative Law and Workers' Compensation courts. Work is performed according to legal reference and CAH style manuals, Minnesota Statutes, and policies. The incumbent will communicate regularly with agency staff, outside attorneys, various stakeholders, partners, and the public. This position requires professionalism, attention to detail, and exceptional organizational and time management skills.
Working as a Legal Administrative Assistant you will:
Draft, proofread, edit, and finalize complex legal documents for judges or staff attorneys.
Ensure the quality of legal documents for content, grammar, spelling, proper citation format.
Maintain accurate and complete data in CAH case management systems.
Maintain working knowledge of hearing requirements.
Receive and direct calls and emails providing legal support to judges, attorneys, litigants, and the public.
This is a hybrid work opportunity; employees must work a minimum of five (5) days in the office per pay period (every 2 weeks).
Minimum Qualifications

One (1) year of experience providing legal administrative support.
Customer service sufficient to respectfully engage with clients, coworkers, and customers, when handling difficult or complex problems and resolving escalated complaints or disputes.
Ability to prepare, edit and finalize legal documents, emails, memos, reports, and/or other documents and types of written communication free of errors, in proper format.
Data entry/database management skills sufficient to accurately input, verify, and edit electronic data.
Ability to use legal terminology sufficient to draft a variety of legal documents and maintain case files/records with accurate and complete information.
Preferred Qualifications
Completion of a legal secretary, legal administrative assistant or related post-secondary training program or certification; OR two or more years as a legal secretary.
Experience in administrative law and with eFiling.
Experience creating ADA compliant and accessible documents.
Proficient in Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, Teams).
Physical Requirements
This is a sedentary position. Requires occasionally moving and transporting such articles as file folders and laptops or accounting boxes. May need to maintain a stationary position for long periods of time while carrying out job duties.
