SUMMARY OF POSITION:
Responsible for oversight, strategic direction, and leadership of the Department of Patient Safety at Penn State Health, Milton S. Hershey Medical Center. Provide leadership in developing a culture of safety and high reliability and in identifying opportunities and initiatives to enhance patient safety. Partner with the Chief Quality Officer to develop strategic and operational plans that build upon the current patient safety program and charter the journey to advance the Patient Safety missions at PSHMC. This position will work closely with all clinical departments, the Department of Nursing, hospital senior leadership, and the administrative teams of the hospital, Children’s Hospital, and the Faculty Division of the PSH Medical Group. Partner closely with the shared services of Penn State Health, including Human Resources and Learning & Leadership Development to integrate the components of a fair and just culture into the system and build a system of sustained learning for leaders and staff. Each of the responsibilities outlined below are inter-related, and performed in close collaboration with the Chief Quality Officer and Chief Medical Officer (and other leaders whenever relevant).
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION(S):
Bachelor's degree required (clinical discipline strongly preferred).
Five (5) years of leadership or management experience.
Seven (7) years' related experience, of which three (3) years must be in a role focused on patient safety program development and/or implementation required.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATION(S):
Master's degree in healthcare administration, nursing, public health, quality, or related field.
Certification in Patient Safety (CPPS) or equivalent.
Experience in an academic medical center or teaching hospital.
Experience working with residency/fellowship programs or faculty governance structures.
