ManTech Tactical Cyber Engineer in Herndon, Virginia
MANTECH seeks a motivated and technical Tactical Cyber Engineer to join our team in Herndon, VA.
The Tactical Cyber Engineer will support the Cyber Security Operations Center (CSOC) by enhancing cyber defense capabilities through the construction and maintenance of a specialized cyber test range. This role involves being part of an elite team of experts and SMEs dedicated to defending critical national security assets through advanced system engineering and automation.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Designing, implementing, and managing secure, scalable systems across Windows, Linux, and cloud environments to ensure robust architecture
Managing system configurations, patches, and updates in Windows, Linux, or hybrid environments to maintain operational readiness
Developing and maintaining scripts and automation tools using Python or similar programming languages to streamline defensive operations
Overseeing virtual infrastructure, such as VMware or Hyper-V, and deploying complex systems within AWS or Azure cloud environments
Implementing and managing automation workflows using SOAR platforms and developing automated incident response playbooks
Enhancing the effectiveness of Endpoint Detection and Response (EDR) solutions, Digital Forensics platforms, and SIEM systems like Splunk or ELK
Working with all stakeholders to plan and implement cyber exercises and drills while providing technical expertise and mentorship to junior staff
Recommending, and when approved, implementing process and policy improvements by staying current on the latest cybersecurity trends and threats
Minimum Qualifications:
High School Diploma/GED with 11+ years of progressively responsible experience in similar roles within a cybersecurity environment
Expert knowledge of Operating Systems, Network Infrastructure, Security Principles, and System Architecture
Experience with Python or similar programming languages to support development and scripting requirements
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field
Relevant professional certifications such as Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP), GIAC, or CEH
Experience with automation and SOAR platforms to include developing automated incident response playbooks
Self-starter with excellent people skills - able to work across teams, organize meetings/boards, and drive change throughout an organization
Clearance Requirements :
- Active/current TS/SCI with Polygraph.
Physical Requirements:
Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50%.
Needs to occasionally move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc.
Frequently communicates with co-workers, management, and customers, which may involve delivering presentations. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.
