Systems Integrator (Skype Engineer)

Position Overview:
We are seeking experienced and highly motivated Systems Integrator (Skype Engineer) to support a mission-critical, on-premises unified communications environment within a highly secure, classified setting. This role is responsible for the day-to-day administration, sustainment, and operational support of Microsoft Skype for Business infrastructure, ensuring high availability, performance, and reliability for enterprise users.
The ideal candidate will bring strong technical expertise in real-time communications platforms, a proactive operational mindset, and the ability to troubleshoot complex issues in a fast-paced, high-visibility environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide full lifecycle operational support for on-premises Microsoft Skype for Business infrastructure, including Front End pools, Edge servers, mediation servers, and supporting components
Perform advanced troubleshooting and break-fix support for incidents related to voice, conferencing, instant messaging (IM), presence, and user connectivity
Monitor system health, service availability, and performance metrics using enterprise monitoring tools; proactively identify and resolve issues before user impact
Support and maintain enterprise voice services, including PSTN integration, call routing, and call quality optimization
Execute routine system maintenance activities such as patching, updates, service restarts, and configuration management to ensure platform stability
Manage certificate lifecycle processes, including renewal, installation, and validation across Skype for Business environment
Conduct root cause analysis for incidents and implement corrective and preventive actions to enhance system reliability
Collaborate closely with Unified Communications leadership, network teams, and customer operations stakeholders to ensure seamless service delivery
Maintain and update technical documentation, runbooks, and standard operating procedures (SOPs) to support consistent operations
Ensure all activities align with Microsoft best practices, supported configurations, and organizational standards
Adhere to strict security and compliance requirements associated with operating in a highly cleared, classified environment
Required Qualifications:
Active TS/SCI clearance with Polygraph (required for consideration)
Hands-on experience supporting on-premises Microsoft Skype for Business (or legacy Lync) environments
Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic skills across unified communications systems, including voice and conferencing services
Experience supporting enterprise IT environments with high availability and uptime requirements
Familiarity with monitoring tools and performance management practices
Understanding of secure environment operations, including compliance with government or classified system requirements
Ability to work onsite in the Herndon, VA area in a structured, mission-driven environment
Preferred / Nice-to-Have Skills:
Experience with Microsoft Teams and/or hybrid Skype for Business to Teams migrations
Familiarity with cloud-based collaboration platforms (e.g., Microsoft 365, Azure)
Knowledge of VoIP technologies, SIP protocols, and enterprise telephony systems
Experience with automation or scripting (e.g., PowerShell) for administrative efficiency
Exposure to large-scale enterprise or government unified communications environments
