Summary

The EHS Specialist develops, evaluates, and monitors environmental, health, and safety policies and procedures in accordance with local, state, and federal regulations to ensure personnel and facility safety.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Acts as subject matter expert for all environmental, health, and safety related topics.
  2. Assists in the development of corporate health and safety programs in accordance with OSHA regulations and applicable standards.
  3. Performs documented hazard assessments of processes throughout the organization to determine risk levels and needs for controls.
  4. Conducts safety audits across multiple facilities to identify gaps and evaluate effectiveness of health and safety programs.
  5. Coordinates Safety Committee Meetings, providing points of discussion and reporting progress on projects and action items.
  6. Communicates on a regular basis with Operations teams across multiple locations to monitor changes in processes and ensures hazard assessments and safety procedures are updated to reflect any changes.
  7. Interfaces with regulatory agencies during external inspections, investigations, or requests for information.
  8. Collects data and tracks trends and progress regarding the company's environmental, health, and safety related performance.
  9. Works with Purchasing and other departments to ensure that an SDS is filed and readily available for all applicable hazardous substances brought on-site.
  10. Maintains all other required environmental, health, and safety documentation.
  11. Assists Human Resources in investigation of safety and environmental accidents and near misses as a subject matter expert.
  12. Assists Human Resources in the preparation of environmental, health, and safety training material for employees based on identified job hazards and compliance requirements.
  13. Performs routine documented facility environmental inspections to satisfy compliance obligations.
  14. Maintains environmental permits and plans, making modifications as needed.
  15. Assists in maintaining an ISO 14001:2015 Environmental Management System, including identifying nonconformities, implementing corrective actions, and conducting internal audits.
  16. Travel to other company locations will be required approximately 15% of the time.
  17. Other duties may be assigned.

Qualifications

  1. Bachelor's Degree in an Occupational Safety and Health or Environmental discipline, and 3-5 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  2. Experience working on an interdisciplinary team and using technical writing, communication, and risk assessment skills to achieve company objectives.
  3. Proven experience implementing health and safety programs in a manufacturing setting.
  4. Knowledge of applicable regulations and standards (OSHA, RCRA, EPA, DOT, NFPA, NIOSH, etc.)
  5. Experience using Word, Excel, Power Point required.
