Army Tank-Automotive and Armament Command (TACOM) Engineering Equipment Operator in Herlong Sierra Ordnance Depot, California

Summary About the Position: Sierra Army Depot is located in Herlong CA, a rural town in Northern California. Herlong is approximately 60 miles north of Reno, NV, and 35 miles south of Susanville, CA. The depot serves as an Army Expeditionary Logistical Support Center. Employees work Mon-Thurs, 0630-1700 hrs. Youth Facilities and childcare available. Mass transportation is available at minimal cost. Surrounding area boasts a full range of outdoor sports and recreation activities. Responsibilities Operate a bulldozer on generally flat or rolling terrain. Responsible for safely moving equipment when near personnel. Operate equipment over reasonable level ground and uses care in operation. Maintain fire lines in the generally rocky and hilly area of the ammunition demolition grounds. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Domestic Defense Industrial Base (DIB) & Major Range and Test Facilities Base (MRTFB) to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Engineering Equipment Operator without more than normal supervision. I have the ability to perform common tasks including maneuvering bulldozers for refuse movement in land filling and operating a tractor to remove debris from work area. I can operate engineering equipment to transport loads for the organization. I work under supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who reviews my work for completion. Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. PHYSICAL EFFORT: Heavy physical effort required in operating equipment controls. Vibration of equipment causes considerable physical strain. Operator may work in awkward uncomfortable positions. WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is performed in all kinds of weather. Operator may work from exposed cabs or seats. Subject to injury from traffic hazards and equipment overturning. Operator is exposed to extreme weather conditions, and to disagreeable vibration, dust, dirt, oil, water, engine odors and exhaust fumes Education Additional Information Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration. This position requires a 1 year probationary period during which the agency evaluates your fitness and whether your continued employment advances the public interest.
