Basic Function: The Senior Network Administrator provides advanced technical leadership and operational support for enterprise network infrastructure across on-premises and cloud environments. The position is responsible for monitoring, administering, and troubleshooting network systems and related services to ensure secure, reliable, and high-performance connectivity aligned with HCCC, SUNY, and ITEC* standards.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Network Operations and Support: Provide advanced support for enterprise networking systems including switches, firewalls, routers, and cloud networking services. Troubleshoot complex network performance issues and outages. Participate in incident response and critical situation management.

  • System Maintenance and Lifecycle Management: Maintain and support network infrastructure and associated software across data center and cloud environments. Assist with installations, upgrades, patching, and lifecycle planning.

  • Strategic and Technical Planning: Participate in technical and strategic planning initiatives. Recommend enhancements to existing systems and contribute to proposals for new network technologies and services.

  • Documentation and ITSM: Maintain accurate documentation, standard operating procedures, and knowledge base content. Document work effort and service activity within the designated ITSM platform to support service delivery, accountability, and recharge models.

  • Professional Development and Collaboration: Participate in training, workshops, and SUNY professional development activities. Collaborate with peers, vendors, and campus partners to support enterprise technology objectives.

    Job Requirements:

Required Skills and Abilities:

  • Demonstrated expertise in enterprise network design, deployment, and administration.

  • Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills.

  • Familiarity with the OSI model, data center infrastructure, and cloud networking platforms.

  • Effective written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.

Minimum Experience and Educational Background:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Information Systems or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Demonstrated experience managing enterprise network environments.

  • Ability to support 24x7 operations as required.

Preferred Experience:

  • Experience in higher education or large enterprise environments.

  • Familiarity with WAN technologies, BGP, security infrastructure, VPNs, and automation.

  • Experience with vendor platforms such as Cisco, Fortinet, Dell, Aruba, and major cloud providers.

ITEC Salary Range: $57,151 - $108,003
