Basic Function:
A full-time professional team member within the Office of Institutional Planning, Research and Assessment, the R & A Specialist must possess the flexibility to meld the duties of two overlapping departments.
Duties include developing appropriate research methods, gathering and inputting essential data, analyzing results, and compiling and disseminating outcomes in graphic and narrative reports or presentations. The successful candidate will be able to explain the research methods used and understand the need to distribute outcomes to appropriate departments. The R & A Specialist will update IR and IE communication on the College website and portal, assist in creating forms for assessment reporting, communicate with faculty and other inter-departmental colleagues, and may also do filing, budget forms and clerical duties, as needed. This associate will also engage in completing required reporting for SUNY, State and Federal Agencies as well as on-going accreditation projects, keeping IR/IE records as digital and hard copy resource books, manuals and essential data reports, which may ultimately to be used as accreditation evidence. Service on relevant College Committees, such as the Survey Team and the Academic Assessment Committee is expected, along with other duties as required.

(Minimum Requirements):
Bachelor's Degree required in a related discipline
Ability to perform qualitative and quantitative data compilation and analysis in support of Herkimer's commitment to continuous improvement of academic and administrative departments college-wide
Ability to compile data and create presentation exhibits useable in support of departmental and academic program reviews, instructional and non-instructional assessment, strategic planning, grant proposals, and annual reports.
Ability to compile and analyze data required by SUNY, New York State Education department and Federal agencies adhering to strict deadlines and reporting specifications.
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and functional experience in Microsoft Office Suite, with an emphasis on Microsoft Access
Comfortable learning new software
Basic understanding of statistical research methods
Knowledge of and respect for regulatory and ethical considerations regarding confidentiality and appropriateness of sharing data
Ability to keep full confidentiality in meetings and through correspondence
Analytical, organized, detail oriented and excellent written and oral communication skills
Ability to manage multiple projects and meet project deadlines
Excellent time management skills; team-oriented work ethic
Support a variety of projects and studies undertaken by the Offices of Institutional Research and Institutional Effectiveness
Engage in accreditation activities
Understand the mission of the community college
(Preferred)
Master's Degree; social science or analytic discipline desired
Experience in an office of institutional research or institutional effectiveness in higher education
Project management experience
Survey development and administration experience
Knowledge of academic and departmental assessment methods, concepts and use of data
Experience with other data and/or assessment software (Taskstream, Survey Monkey, Silver Stripe, etc.);
Basic understanding of accreditation in higher education
