Position Summary
The Field Communications & Control Systems Technician serves as a key field resource supporting the Communications and Control Engineering Group. This role is responsible for configuring, verifying, and troubleshooting communication systems, controllers, and distribution devices across field locations. The technician ensures reliable system performance and communication integrity for critical infrastructure, including battery energy storage systems.
This position requires close collaboration with engineers and technical services teams to maintain operational efficiency, resolve issues, and support ongoing system improvements.
Seeking someone from telecommunications, network support, electrical systems, or field service technician roles with hands-on troubleshooting experience.
Key Responsibilities
Perform field installation, configuration, and maintenance of communication equipment and control devices
Verify programming and system settings for controllers and distribution equipment
Troubleshoot communication, networking, and control system issues in the field
Support battery energy storage systems, including program verification and diagnostics
Maintain and update system databases and documentation
Coordinate with engineering and technical teams to ensure proper system functionality
Provide remote support to engineers and assist with real-time issue resolution
Travel to assigned field sites to perform inspections, upgrades, and repairs
Work Environment & Schedule
100% field-based role with daily travel to various sites across Colorado
Workday begins at a designated service center (LDC or MDC) with assignments provided by the Engineering Group
Full-time position (40 hours/week) with occasional overtime as needed
Work involves driving, outdoor conditions, and use of PPE (e.g., safety vest); occasional ladder use may be required
Required Qualifications
2 years of experience in communications, IT, or electrical troubleshooting
Working knowledge of networking concepts (e.g., firewalls, Ethernet, connectivity)
Experience with Microsoft Office (Excel required; Access preferred)
Basic understanding of electrical systems or power distribution
Experience with database updates and maintenance
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Ability to work independently in field environments
Effective communication and teamwork skills
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with electrical distribution systems
Familiarity with reclosers or capacitor banks
Network configuration experience
Background in utilities, telecommunications, or field equipment installation
