Insight Global Civil Project Engineer / Project Manager in Helena, Montana
Job Description
A small, well‑established civil engineering consulting firm is seeking a Project Manager / Civil Engineer to join its growing team in Helena, MT. This role offers a unique opportunity to take ownership of meaningful municipal infrastructure projects while working closely with firm leadership in a highly collaborative, hands‑on environment.
The ideal candidate is a self‑motivated engineer who enjoys wearing multiple hats - from technical design to project management and client collaboration - and is interested in growing into a long‑term leadership and ownership-track role within the firm.
Projects primarily focus on water, wastewater, storm drainage, and municipal infrastructure, including planning, funding support, and design through construction.
Key Responsibilities Include:
Perform detailed site and municipal infrastructure design, including grading, drainage, utilities, and stormwater systems using AutoCAD Civil 3D
Prepare construction documents such as plans, specifications, and cost estimates in compliance with applicable codes and standards
Conduct engineering calculations, feasibility analyses, and site evaluations to support sound design decisions
Lead and manage multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring adherence to scope, schedule, budget, and quality expectations
Prepare and review construction estimates, budgets, and contracts with a high level of accuracy
Conduct site visits and oversee construction progress, ensuring safety and quality compliance
Manage project documentation including RFIs, submittals, change orders, contracts, and progress reports
Collaborate directly with clients, contractors, and project stakeholders to ensure project success
Apply best practices in project management, risk mitigation, and quality assurance
Compensation Range: $70-100K/annually (+ bonuses and highly competitive employee benefits). Exact compensation will vary based on several factors, including skills, experience, and education.

Skills and Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a related field
Professional Engineer (PE) license, or ability to obtain one within a short timeframe
4+ years of progressive experience in site development or municipal civil engineering projects
Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D, including grading, stormwater systems, utility design, and site layout
Proven experience in construction management or as a project engineer with a strong background in civil or heavy civil projects
Strong understanding of construction estimating and contract administration
Ability to interpret complex plans, specifications, and technical drawings
Excellent communication skills, problem solving ability, and attention to detail - Familiarity with contracts law related to construction projects
