Job Title: Controls Engineer

Job Description

We are seeking a Controls Engineer to join our Client's dynamic team. This role requires a seasoned professional with a strong background in electrical design, programming, and engineering, particularly within the special machine industry. The ideal candidate will provide technical leadership, enhance departmental programming expertise, and deliver high-quality solutions to meet our customers' needs.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical leadership and expertise to the controls team, guiding them to meet project objectives.

  • Develop, install, and troubleshoot PLC, HMI, motion control, robot, and vision software solutions in line with design standards and customer requirements.

  • Collaborate with Project Managers and Design teams to understand machine functions and develop appropriate software solutions.

  • Identify and provide reliable solutions for technical issues to ensure complete customer satisfaction.

  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of departmental processes and stay current with advancements in controls engineering and automation technology.

  • Serve as a technical subject matter expert and offer guidance and training to the team.

  • Support design decisions, answer project questions, and ensure controls software systems support the overall process.

  • Participate in design reviews to understand software requirements and offer design guidance.

  • Assist with the training of new employees within the software department.

  • Support Applications Engineers during the quoting process and the service department by assisting customers remotely or on-site.

  • Collaborate with the Software Manager to document or create standard work practices and methods for the controls team.

  • Travel approximately 25% of the time, including overnight travel, potentially domestic and international.

Essential Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent experience.

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in electrical design, programming, and engineering, with preference for special machine industry experience.

  • Minimum of 2 years of leadership experience.

  • Proficiency in PLC, HMI, robot, motion control, LabVIEW, and machine vision software applications.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Excellent problem-solving abilities and a detail-oriented approach.

  • Ability to troubleshoot and debug complex automation systems.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience with ignition software for data communication and database interfacing.

  • Understanding of data communication network systems and protocols, including ethernet.

  • Familiarity with industry standards and regulations.

  • Flexibility to manage multiple projects of varying scope and complexity.

  • Creativity and flexibility to find innovative solutions.

Work Environment

This is a fully on-site position at the Hebron, KY site, with flexible work-from-home options on a need basis. The role offers the opportunity to take on a leadership position with a global leader in factory automation, requiring approximately 25% yearly domestic travel.

Job Type & Location

This is a Permanent position based out of Hebron, KY.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $100000.00 - $120000.00/yr.
