Job Summary:
The Newborn Screening Program Coordinator is a grant-funded, per diem position, funded by a renewable grant from the NYSDOH. This position requires an advanced level administrative coordinator who will be responsible for supporting the Biochemical Genetics Program Clinical Director with assistance and management of all data pertaining to the NYSDOH Newborn Screening Program. This position ll function under the direction of the Biochemical Genetic Program Clinical Director and the Medical Genetics practice manager.
Responsibilities:
Function as the advocate and contact person for the NBS families to assure continued optimum care.
Assist with coordinating follow-up visits for NBS patients
Send template letter to patient’s MD with copy of lab results, if appropriate.
Create and modify documents such as records, reports, memos and letters as needed.
Maintain confidentiality in all aspects of the job including but not limited to patient information.
Work with the Biochemical Genetic Program Clinical Director to obtain Institutional IRB approval to participate in the study within the first 6 months of starting.
Responsible for communicating with the NBS program about IRB approval status
Responsible for following designated workflow for consent process and data entry as related to the NBS program.
Responsible for ensuring the diagnosis form is submitted to the NBS program within 90 days of referral.
Responsible for ensuring that a signed consent form or a declination to participate in long-term follow-up is submitted to the NBS program and kept on file in the EMR.for each patient with an abnormal newborn screen laboratory test result for an inherited metabolic disorder.
Responsible for entering long-term follow-up data into an electronic system provided by the NBS program, within one month of receiving the list from the NBS program.
Participate in a webinar to review statewide long-term follow-up data with the dietician.

Qualifications/Requirements:
Experience:
3-5 years or equivalent combination of related administrative or research experience. Prior experience in a medical office is desirable.
Education:
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution, preferred. An equivalent combination of experience and education may be substituted for degree requirements.

Advanced Office, Excel and PowerPoint are a must for this position. The ability to multitask and take initiative is a must. Excellent written and oral communications skills, including an eye for detail and command of language and grammar. Should exude professionalism and a positive attitude at all times and be adaptable in a rapidly changing work environment with competing priorities. Prior medical field experience in an academic hospital preferred.
