City of Havre Pool Supervisor in Havre, Montana

CITY OF HAVRE POOL SUPERVISOR DEPARTMENT: Parks and Recreation/Swimming Pool ACCOUNTABLE TO: Parks and Recreation Director SUMMARY OF WORK: Directs the operation of the Community Swimming Pool. Provides for a safe environment; hires personnel; monitors water quality; oversees maintenance; schedules activities and programs; and assists with budget and record keeping. JOB CHARACTERISTICS: Nature of Work: This position performs administrative and technical duties involving the total operation of the pool and management and training of pool personnel. Position deals with hazards of chemicals and body fluids requiring adherence to safety practices. Position works flexible work schedule and works in humid environment. Personal Contacts: Daily contact with the public and pool employees. Supervision Received: Position is mainly self-directed. Weekly meetings with Parks and Recreation Director. Supervision Exercised: Daily supervision employees. Essential Functions: Position requires ability to perform pool maintenance; maintain records; prepare budget; visually inspect pool area; hear distress calls; perform first aid and CPR; lift and carry bags of chemicals weighing approximately 50 pounds; use rescue tubes, rescue buoys and reaching poles; use kick boards, diving rings, and life jackets. AREAS OF JOB ACCOUNTABILITY AND PERFORMANCE: • Schedules and organizes all aquatic programs including but not limited to recreational swimming for all ages, fitness classes, special events, instructional swimming, pool rentals, lifeguard training and water safety instructor training. Handles public relations. • Prepares monthly schedule of activities and programs for news media. • Assigns pool personnel to provide for health and safety of patrons. • Determines personnel requirements for all activities. • Evaluates personnel; with Director hires and dismisses employees. • Organizes and conducts an in-service training program for all employees. • Responsible for maintenance of pool water in safe and desirable condition; takes water tests as scheduled, records results, submits records or samples as required. Revised: 01/12/2023 • Recommends operational policies for the pool and pool personnel. Sets rules and regulations for patron use of facility. • Maintains records of supplies, equipment and maintenance. Orders supplies and repairs as needed. Directs maintenance/custodial staff. Plans, prepares, carries out daily, monthly, semi-annually and annual maintenance and custodial schedule for cleaning and sanitation of pool environment and operation. • Maintains updated safety and health policies under local and state Health Department and OSHA regulations. • Checks daily deposit and sends to City Hall; signs time sheets and checks and records employee checks. • Puts in and takes out pool access stairs. • Removes pool slide and diving board as needed. • Performs other related duties as required. JOB REQUIREMENTS: Knowledge: This position requires a knowledge of pool maintenance and operation; knowledge of water quality and testing; knowledge of supervision of employees. Knowledge of water activities. Skills: This position requires skills in pool maintenance and operation. Abilities: This position requires the ability to: supervise; handle emergencies; organize; schedule; do pool maintenance; maintain records; communicate effectively orally and in writing; follow verbal and written instructions; establish effective working relationships with fellow employees, supervisors, and the public. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: The above knowledge, skills, and abilities are typically acquired through a combination of education and experience equivalent to: • A Bachelor's degree in Parks and Recreation Management or Administration or related field. Emphasis on Aquatics preferred. • Possess Lifeguard Certificate, Lifeguard Instructor Certificate and Water Safety Instructor Certificate. • Must have Swimming Pool Operators Certificate or acquire within one year of hire.
