This Position is for an Assistant Comptroller - District Office with an educational institution with opportunity in Perkinston, MS.
Job Description: Reports to the Associate VP of Finance/Comptroller and is responsible for assisting with maintaining the financial records of the college and daily operation of the finance department. The position is directly involved with all areas of the College's accounting system.
Job Duties:
General Duties:
- Adhere to all College policies and procedures.
- Adhere to State and Federal laws and regulation.
- Maintain an effective working relationship with college personnel, students and the community.
- Attend to details and perform at high rate of accuracy.
- Upgrade skills level and performance through professional development.
- Insure the integrity of financial control procedures and proper accounting measures.
Specific Duties:
- Maintain accounting records in accordance with Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB), generally accepted accounting principles, and applicable federal and state laws.
- Assist with preparation of annual financial statements.
- Assist with the college's annual financial audit including serving as the college liaison with the auditors, communicating with other departments, and coordinating requests for data by the auditors.
- Assist with leadership of the finance department by clearly communicating expectations, mentoring and teaching accounting principles, while leading by example.
- Ensure efficient and accurate processing of the college's payroll and accounts payable functions through supervision of the employees responsible for those areas.
- Work with District Business Office staff and other departments in order to coordinate year-end processes and close the fiscal year accounting records within the ERP system.
- Preparation of the annual Master Budget Request to the MS Legislature through the MS Community College Board. This includes coordination with other departments to obtain accurate data necessary to prepare the report.
- Work with the District Business Office staff to insure that accurate financial reports are prepared and available to Administration as needed.
- Enforces deadlines and maintains efficiency in the finance department.
- Coordinate with District business Office and IT staff on Banner Finance errors/issues/solutions.
- Manage the preparation and reporting of all federal and state tax forms and filings.
- Prepare financial reports necessary for federal grant programs.
- Maintaining accounting records for and payment of District Bonds, Leases, and Notes Payable.
- Research and prepare other financial reports as needed/requested.
- Perform other duties as assigned by Associate VP of Finance/Comptroller.
Mandatory Qualifications:
M(1) Bachelor's degree in business, accounting, or related field from a regionally accredited institution of higher learning.
M(2) Minimum of five years practical experience in an accounting/finance setting.
M(3) Demonstrated leadership and managerial skills.
M(4) Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills.
M(5) Demonstrated competency in technology.
Desirable Qualifications:
D(1) CPA license.
D(2) Masters degree in business, accounting, or related field from a regionally accredited institution of higher learning.
D(3) Experience with an Enterprise Resource Planning system, preferably Banner.
D(4) Prior or current experience working in a community/junior college setting.
D(5) Experience supervising staff.
