Position Overview
We are hiring a hardworking and safety-minded
Railcar Technician / Shop Laborer
to support railcar maintenance and refurbishment operations. This hands-on role includes working in a wash bay, assisting with repairs and operating blasting equipment to prepare railcars for finishing. If youre comfortable working in physically demanding environments including heights and confined spaces. This is a great opportunity with strong earning potential.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate blasting equipment to remove rust, scale, paint and debris from railcars
- Perform surface preparation for painting and finishing
- Blow off and inspect railcars before and after blasting
- Cover sensitive components to protect from blasting materials
- Assist with railcar repairs, welding and other shop functions
- Prepare railcars for finishing (caulking, taping, cleaning, etc.)
- Set up, adjust and maintain blasting equipment and tools
- Change hoses, nozzles and perform basic equipment maintenance
- Use hand and power tools such as grinders and sanding discs
- Assist painters and other departments as needed
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment
Qualifications and Requirements
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
- Basic math, reading, and writing skills
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment
- Comfortable working at heights and in confined spaces
- Willingness to work indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions
- Strong work ethic and reliability
- Steel-toe boots required
Physical Requirements
- Ability to perform physically demanding work
- Comfortable climbing, bending and working in tight spaces
- Ability to wear safety harnesses when working at heights
