Oracle’s Fusion Applications group is designing and building the next-generation deployment platform for its suite of software products. We focus on transforming how software developers and DevOps engineers build, deploy, and operate cloud applications for enterprise customers. Our team is developing AI-driven systems that improve developer productivity and automate the operation of large-scale cloud services. These systems enable better decision-making, streamline workflows, and increase reliability across complex environments.

Our team is fully remote. We currently have members spread across the US, India, and Europe. We practice scrum and leverage Slack and Zoom heavily for day-to-day communication.
The Role
As a Principal Data Scientist (IC4), you will lead the design and development of AI-driven systems within the Spectra Platform, spanning backend services, data systems, and intelligent workflows. You will own complex, high-impact initiatives that cut across multiple systems and teams, driving projects from early concept through production deployment and iteration.
This role requires strong technical leadership and hands-on work across both software engineering and applied AI. You will design and implement agent workflows, guardrails and evaluation approaches, while building the systems and processes needed to ensure reliability and confidence in results.
A successful candidate brings strong technical judgment, experience delivering large-scope systems, and the ability to collaborate effectively with a wide range of stakeholders across engineering, product, and infrastructure.
Ideal Qualifications:
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience
Strong software engineering fundamentals with deep experience building and operating distributed systems
Proven track record of delivering large-scope, high-impact projects across multiple teams or domains
Experience designing and building AI or model-driven systems in production environments
Experience developing prompts, agent workflows, and evaluation approaches for AI systems
Strong understanding of API design, service architecture, and cloud-native development principles
Experience with Kubernetes and cloud-based deployments
Experience developing and maintaining models and data systems with a focus on reliability, observability, and scale
Demonstrated ability to work across organizational boundaries and collaborate with diverse stakeholders
Responsibilities
As a Principal Data Scientist on the team, you will:
Design, build, and operate AI-driven systems that power core capabilities of the Spectra Platform
Develop and iterate on agent workflows, guardrails and evaluation strategies to improve system quality and reliability
Build and maintain scalable backend services and data systems that support AI-driven functionality
Lead end-to-end delivery of complex initiatives, from requirements and design through implementation, deployment, and operation
Define and implement approaches for measuring, validating, and improving AI system behavior in production
Architect APIs and service interfaces to support extensibility and long-term platform growth
Collaborate with product managers, infrastructure teams, and other engineering groups to deliver cohesive, high-impact solutions
Provide technical leadership and mentorship, raising the bar across engineering and AI system development
Continuously improve system performance, scalability, and developer experience through thoughtful design and iteration

US: Hiring Range in USD from: $109,200 to $223,400 per annum. May be eligible for bonus and equity.
Oracle maintains broad salary ranges for its roles in order to account for variations in knowledge, skills, experience, market conditions and locations, as well as reflect Oracle's differing products, industries and lines of business.
Candidates are typically placed into the range based on the preceding factors as well as internal peer equity.

Paid time off: Flexible Vacation is provided to all eligible employees assigned to a salaried (non-overtime eligible) position. Accrued Vacation is provided to all other employees eligible for vacation benefits. For employees working at least 35 hours per week, the vacation accrual rate is 13 days annually for the first three years of employment and 18 days annually for subsequent years of employment. Vacation accrual is prorated for employees working between 20 and 34 hours per week. Employees working fewer than 20 hours per week are not eligible for vacation.
