Aetna is seeking an Executive Director of Strategic Operations to serve as a key leader within the Medicare Supplement and Ancillary business. This role is instrumental in shaping and executing the Medicare Supplement and Ancillary strategy while providing enterprise-wide leadership across the portfolio. The Executive Director champions operational rigor, accountability, and continuous improvement, and collaborates closely with cross‑functional partners to ensure alignment with broader Medicare and organizational goals.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with senior business leadership to shape strategy, identify priority initiatives, and drive execution across all Medicare Supplement and Ancillary lines of business.

  • Own the design, evolution, and governance of the enterprise operating model, ensuring clarity, accountability, and effective decision‑making.

  • Lead business development efforts by identifying and advancing partnership opportunities with Medicare, internal stakeholders, external organizations, and affinity partners.

  • Provide strategic leadership to teams spanning risk, reporting & analytics, business optimization, and related functions to drive performance and insight.

  • Strengthen operational effectiveness by evaluating business practices, ensuring compliance, and proactively navigating regulatory changes.

  • Build, develop, and retain a high‑performing, diverse leadership team capable of meeting and exceeding business objectives.

  • Drive collaboration across Medicare and shared service partners to identify performance opportunities and translate insights into actionable execution plans.

  • Build and maintain strong external relationships, including brokers, regulators, vendors, and strategic partners.

  • Lead enterprise change management efforts, ensuring alignment to strategy, disciplined execution, and sustained adoption.

  • Oversee the review and analysis of business performance, using data and insights to inform decision‑making and continuous improvement.

Qualifications

The candidate will have a strong work ethic, be a self-starter, and be able to be highly productive in a dynamic, collaborative environment. This position offers broad exposure to all aspects of the company’s business, as well as significant interaction with all the business leaders. The candidate will be expected to have the following key attributes:

  • 10+ years of progressive leadership experience in large insurance or financial services organizations, with expertise spanning strategy, business planning, financial analysis, risk management, and operational consulting.

  • Broad health insurance experience preferred, including Medicare Supplement and Ancillary products, with knowledge of Medicare regulations and compliance frameworks a plus.

  • Strong executive presence and communication skills, with the ability to influence, engage, and build credibility with cross‑functional and executive stakeholders.

  • Demonstrated ability to drive results through disciplined execution, including planning, implementation, and sustained operational support in complex environments.

  • Advanced analytical and business intelligence capabilities to inform decision‑making, performance management, and strategic insights.

  • Proven problem‑solving and decision‑making skills in ambiguous, fast‑changing contexts.

  • Growth‑oriented leader with agility and a demonstrated ability to develop, motivate, and retain talent.

  • Track record of influencing without authority and managing executive‑level relationships to achieve business outcomes.

Education

Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience.

Pay Range

The typical pay range for this role is:

$131,500.00 - $303,195.00

This pay range represents the base hourly rate or base annual full-time salary for all positions in the job grade within which this position falls. The actual base salary offer will depend on a variety of factors including experience, education, geography and other relevant factors. This position is eligible for a CVS Health bonus, commission or short-term incentive program in addition to the base pay range listed above. This position also includes an award target in the company’s equity award program.
