Please note: Anticipated Hours of Work: Worker will report to work at the designated time and place as directed by the Grower each day. The standard workweek: is Monday & Friday 8 hours, Tuesday-Thursday 9 hours and 2 hours on Saturday is normal; however, workers may be requested to work 12+ hours per day depending upon the conditions in the fields and maturity of the crops but will not be required to do so. Also, the workers may be requested to work on federal holidays and on their Sabbath but will not be required to do so. Workers may volunteer to work additional hours when work is available.
Down Time: Workers should expect occasional periods of little or no work because of weather, crop or other conditions beyond the employer’s control. These periods can occur anytime throughout the season. Starting and ending times may vary according to weather and crop conditions. When this occurs, the employer will give workers advance notice as possible. Starting and ending times will change due to weather and crop conditions. During certain times of the season workers are required to work at night. Workers will be given as much notice as possible when changing shifts are required. Also, the workers may be requested to work on federal holidays and on their Sabbath but will not be required to do so. Workers may volunteer to work additional hours when work is available. If a worker is offered and agrees to work more than the scheduled hours during the workweek, they must still report to work on their other scheduled days, unless arrangements are approved in advance with the owner or supervisor. Choosing to work longer hours during the week does not exclude you from working each scheduled workday. Not reporting for work on your scheduled workday will be counted as an unexcused absence.

Job Duties:
This job order is for Agricultural Supervisor 45-1011.00. Workers will perform duties associated with this code where they directly supervise and coordinate the activities of agricultural workers employed by Central Turf Farms.
Evaluate the workload, schedule, and delegate the equipment and employees to cut sod and perform other farming functions such as mowing, seeding, and irrigation.
Monitor and instruct sod harvesting employees on operation of harvesters and quality control of sod using knowledge of the operation of sod harvesting equipment.
Load and instruct workers on loading sod using forklifts.
Calculate sod sold or issued to determine total billings.
Schedule maintenance, repair, and overhaul farm machinery and vehicles, such as tractors, harvesters, and irrigation systems.
Operate automatic and manual transmission tractors, tractor-drawn machinery, and self-propelled machinery to plow, harrow and fertilize soil, or to plant, cultivate, spray and harvest crops.
Report to mechanic details of repairs made and parts used.
Test and replace electrical components and wiring, using test meters, soldering equipment, and hand tools.
Repair or replace defective parts using hand tools, welding equipment, grinders, or saws.
Transport employees to worksites/jobsites.
Oversee set up & operation of irrigation equipment.
Read customer orders and calculate sod purchases and invoices
Employer retains the right to discharge an obviously unqualified worker, malinger, or recalcitrant worker who is physically able but does not demonstrate the willingness to perform the work necessary for the employer to grow a premium quality product.
GENERAL CONDITIONS: Work begins at assigned time usually shortly after daylight. Work is performed during light rain and in high humidity and in temperatures ranging from 100 (+) degrees to 30 degrees. Workers will work on their feet in bent, stooped, and crouched positions for long periods of time. Workers will make fast, simple, repeated movements of fingers, hands, and wrists. Workers must be able to bend, stretch, twist, or reach out with the body, arms, and/or legs. Workers will use muscles to lift, push, pull, or carry heavy objects. These could/will weigh from 60 lbs. Workers will supply their own work clothes. All the tasks in this Job Description constitute one (1) job; the employer may assign workers to different tasks on any day or to multiple tasks during the same day in the sole judgment of the employer. This is a very demanding and competitive business in which quality specifications must be rigorously adhered to. Sloppy work cannot and will not be tolerated.
Full Crop Commitment: This is regular work, as outlined in Section 6 of this job order, for the full remainder of the period of employment. The worker agrees to work for assigned employer(s) whenever work is available during the full remaining period of employment even though work may be slack at times. The worker understands that if the worker quits or is terminated for cause prior to the end of the period of employment, the worker will not receive the 3/4 guarantees and will not receive certain transportation reimbursements. Excessive tardiness and/or absences will not be tolerated and will result in termination.
Daily individual work assignments, crew assignments, and location of work, will be made by and at the sole discretion of the farm manger and/or farm supervisor as the needs of the farming operation dictate. Workers may be assigned a variety of duties in any given day and/or different tasks on different days. Workers will be expected to perform any of the listed duties and work on any crop as assigned by the worker's supervisor.
Harvesting specifications, in particular, can change from time to time during the season due to crop or market conditions, even on the same crop. Workers will be expected to conform to the specific instructions given for each day’s work.
The farm owner/supervisor or a designated employee will provide specific instructions and close supervision. Workers will be expected to perform their duties in a timely and proficient manner and will have close supervision to insure adherence to instruction. Work will be closely monitored and reviewed for quality.
Minimum Education Required
None. No High School Diploma or GED required.
Minimum Experience Required
All applicants must have at least 2 months experience operating 50+HP sod harvester and other manual transmission equipment, and 6 months supervising workers on a sod farm.
Must be able to lift at least 60 lbs.
Applicants must have a valid driver's license.
Applicants must be able to furnish affirmative job references from recent employers.
Must be physically able to meet and perform all job specifications stated in job order.
Must be able to work in the hot humid weather for extended periods of time.
Job will require exposure to extreme temperatures.
Extensive pushing and pulling is required.
Extensive walking or sitting is required.
Frequent stooping or bending over is required (Workers will work on their feet in bent, stooped, and crouched positions for long periods of time.)

Workers may not leave trash, or other discarded items in work areas or vehicles but must dispose of such items in provided receptacles.
Allergies to varieties of ragweed, goldenrod, insecticides, related agricultural chemicals, etc., may affect worker’s ability to perform the work described herein.
Workers are subject to random drug testing post hire at no cost to the employee. Failing or refusing a drug test will result in immediate termination.
Worker must possess the physical strength and endurance (ability to continue or last) to repeat the harvest process though out the workday, working quickly and skillfully to perform activities assigned during that activity. Workers must work at a sustained (continuing for an extended period of time without interruption), vigorous pace (quick and steady) and make bona fide efforts (made in earnest intent) to work efficiently (performing or functions in the best possible manner with the least waste of time and effort) and consistently (same way for a long time) that are reasonable under the climatic and other working conditions.

Additional Compensation
Employer reserves the right to pay higher than the stated wage rate to any worker foreign or domestic. This is not promised or guaranteed. The decision to pay above the stated rates will be made by the employer, at their sole discretion, and will be based on factors including the recipients’ performance and tenure including working team leaders, and drivers.
As required for all workers in Minnesota, hours worked in excess of 48 hours in a work week will be paid at the rate of 1.5 times the regular rate of pay.

EMPLOYER ASSURANCES: Work guaranteed for 3/4 of contract period, starting with date of arrival at work site. Employer provides free housing for workers whose residence is beyond normal commuting distance. Employer pays inbound transportation and subsistence to work site upon 50% completion of work contract for workers whose residence is beyond normal commuting distance. Daily subsistence will be provided at a rate of at least $16.28 per day during travel to a maximum of $68.00 per day with receipts (Updated 03/24/2025). Required work-related tools and supplies provided free of charge by employer.
Effective Jan 1, 2024, per MN State Statute, an employee will earn one hour of paid sick and safe time for every 30 hours worked, up to at least 48 hours of accrued Earned Sick and Safe Time (ESST) per year, provided the employee works a minimum of 80 hours in a calendar year.
