Job Information

L & S Fabrication LLC Welder Fabricator in Hampton, South Carolina

Description

Job Summary

We are looking for a highly skilled and versatile Welder/Fabricator to join our custom job shop. You will be responsible for taking projects from raw material to finished product.

This role is not a repetitive production line position; you will work on unique, one-off projects ranging from industrial repairs to custom architectural pieces. The ideal candidate is a "mechanical artist" who can read prints, troubleshoot fit-up issues, and switch between welding processes (MIG, TIG, Stick) as needed.

Key Responsibilities
  • Custom Fabrication: Cut, bend, and shape raw metal (steel, aluminum, stainless) using saws, shears, torches, and press brakes.

  • Blueprint Interpretation: Read and interpret complex technical drawings, weld symbols, and hand-sketched diagrams to determine project requirements.

  • Precision Layout: Perform accurate layouts and "fit-ups" using squares, levels, and measuring tools to ensure parts align perfectly before final welding.

  • Multi-Process Welding: Perform high-quality welds (MIG, TIG, and/or Stick) in various positions (flat, horizontal, vertical, overhead).

  • Finishing and Quality Control: Grind, sand, and polish finished products to meet aesthetic and structural standards. Inspect own work for defects like porosity or warping.

  • Problem Solving: Collaborate with the shop foreman or customers to find solutions for "impossible" repairs or design flaws.

Required Skills and Qualifications
  • Experience: 1-3+ years in a custom job shop or repair environment (preferred over production-only experience).

  • Technical Literacy: Mastery of shop math (fractions, decimals, and basic geometry).

  • Equipment Mastery: Proficient with shop equipment such as:

    • Horizontal/Vertical Band Saws

    • Ironworkers and Hydraulic Shears

    • Plasma Cutters and Oxy-fuel Torches

    • Grinders, Drills, and Sanders

  • Materials Knowledge: Deep understanding of how different metals react to heat (warping, expansion) and how to prevent it.

  • Physical Stamina: Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, work in various positions, and stand for 8-10 hour shifts.
