Job Description
AECOM is seeking a Junior Fluvial Geomorphologist & Aquatic Ecologist for a new position to support the growth of our fluvial geomorphology and aquatic ecosystem practice in Ontario and across Canada. The successful candidate will work with senior geomorphologists, hydraulic engineers, and ecologists on stream restoration projects focused on natural process function, habitat improvement, erosion mitigation, and fish passage. Depending on background and interest, opportunities exist to develop additional skills in hydraulic or geoscience fields, including limnology.
Key Responsibilities
Apply foundational scientific principles, established practices, and existing technologies to technical tasks with defined scope.
Collect, manage, and interpret field and desktop data.
Conduct fish habitat assessments and fish community assessments..
Support Natural Channel Design and stream restoration projects from assessment through implementation.
Complete detailed field investigations under the mentorship of senior staff.
Analyse and interpret geomorphic, hydraulic, and aquatic habitat data.
Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams across offices.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline (e.g., geomorphology, physical geography, environmental science, river engineering, aquatic ecology).
Knowledge of fluvial form and processes, their relationship to local physiography, and their influence on aquatic habitat.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Detail‑oriented work style with the ability to manage personal workload and meet deadlines.
Willingness and ability to work longer days in remote field conditions.
Enjoy working outdoors in varying weather.
Ability to work independently and within a team environment.
Commitment to AECOM’s Health and Safety protocols.
Valid Class G driver’s licence.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with environmental data collection, species/habitat identification, and structured data entry.
Eligibility for membership with APGO or PEO.
Master’s degree with a focus on fluvial geomorphology.
Familiarity with Natural Channel Design concepts, detailed design, construction oversight, and post‑construction monitoring.

Relocation is not available for this position.

Offered rate of compensation will be based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. The range for this position is $58000 to $68000.
