Electrical Engineer – Laser & Medical Device SystemsAbout the Role
We are seeking an Intermediate Electrical Engineer to help design, prototype, and transition laser‑based medical device systems from concept to production. This role sits at the intersection of systems engineering, embedded software, electrical hardware, and manufacturing, within a regulated medical environment.
You will play a hands‑on role in building real products—owning system architecture, firmware development, testing, and compliance—while collaborating with cross‑functional engineering and manufacturing teams.
Primary Responsibilities
Design, build, and maintain laser-based medical device systems, from early prototype through production support.
Lead prototyping and process development efforts, focusing on scalability, repeatability, and manufacturability.
Evaluate emerging technologies and recommend improvements to system performance, reliability, and cost.
Support transition of designs into manufacturing and production environments.
Systems & Engineering Responsibilities
Develop system architectures that integrate:
Electrical hardware
Embedded software
Sensors, actuators, and motion control systems
Design and implement embedded firmware for device control, monitoring, and data acquisition.
Collaborate closely with mechanical, manufacturing, quality, and software teams to ensure seamless system integration.
Perform system-level testing, debugging, troubleshooting, and optimization.
Contribute to design reviews, risk assessments, and failure analysis.
Regulatory & Documentation Responsibilities
Ensure system designs and software meet ISO 13485, FDA, and IEC 62304 requirements.
Develop and maintain:
System and software requirements
Design documentation and specifications
Verification and validation protocols
Support audits, design history file (DHF) documentation, and change control activities.
Required QualificationsEducation
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a closely related field.
Experience
3+ years of systems engineering experience in medical devices or other regulated industries.
Hands-on experience developing embedded systems using C/C++ and Python.
Core Technical Skills
Systems Engineering and system integration
Electrical engineering and hardware/software integration
Embedded firmware development
Manufacturing support and design for manufacturability
G-Code, motion control, or CNC‑style control systems
Validation and verification in regulated environments
Software-hardware interface design
Additional Technical Competencies (Preferred)
PCB design and electrical hardware integration
Experience with microcontrollers and RTOS
Communication protocols:
UART
SPI
I²C
Knowledge of IEC 62304 medical device software lifecycle standards
Familiarity with Design Controls and Risk Management (FMEA)

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Halethorpe, MD.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $55.00 - $58.00/hr.
