TITLE: Bus Aide/Monitor
PAY GRADE: Classified Salary Schedule
FLSA: Non-Exempt
SUPERVISOR: Transportation Supervisor
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Works on-site according to designated schedule
SUMMARY:
The Bus Aide assists in the safe and pleasant transportation of students whose IEP calls for an aide on the bus.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
High School Diploma or equivalent required. One (1) year of related experience preferred. Must be able to
administer first aid/CPR. Spanish language skills or bilingualism preferred but not required. Any equivalent
combination of education and experience.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: (This list of essential duties is not a comprehensive listing of all

Answers multiple busy phone lines efficiently.
Ensures the safety and well-being of children being transported to and from the program and on field trips on
vehicles used by the program, including but not limited to, helping children board the bus safely, including
helping teachers prepare for departure (putting on coats and assuring that each child has his/her own
belongings), assuring that the bus driver is not distracted from the safe operation of the vehicle, helping children
safely get off the bus and into the custody (only) of those individuals authorized to receive them, and retrieving
any fallen objects during the bus ride.
Follows and ensures mandated child restraint devise procedures, ensuring children are properly positioned and
restrained as listed in the IEP.
Will attend mandatory training(s) provided by the school nurse should health needs are a concern.
Engages in activity that is safe and appropriate for a moving vehicle; and consistent with Developmentally
Appropriate Practices to make the trip pleasant and comfortable.
Assures the safe evacuation of children and adults passengers (following the Bus Evacuation Plan) and assists
in assuring that all passengers are transported to the nearest hospital or to their private physician, as per
Medical/Accident Emergency Plan, in the event of an accident or emergency.
Assists in completing accident reports, when appropriate.
Reports any traffic violations incurred by the Bus Driver to the school administrator.
Attends all scheduled staff meetings, team meetings, and trainings, as requested.
Supervises sign-in and sign-out procedures.
Follows center\'s sick-child policy with regard to receiving children on the bus.
Gives parents any notes or written materials sent from the school and distributes notes from parents to the
appropriate school staff.
Receives children\'s medicines from parents and returns them to parents.
Relays parents\' questions, to the special education teacher. When asked may inform parents of any pertinent
information about the child\'s bus ride or condition.
Assists in maintaining the interior of the vehicle in a clean and safe operating condition.

Assures that no child is ever left unsupervised on a bus.
Performs other duties, as may be assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of reading and interpreting documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions,
and procedure manuals. Skill in commun icating clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing. Skill in effectively
communicating in one-on-one and small group situations to parents, students, and other employees of the District.
Skill in interpreting and implementing a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with
a variety of concrete variables. Ability to work in a friendly manner and develop effective working relationships with
students, staff, and the school community. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all District requirements,
Board of Education policies, and applicable State and Federal laws. Ability to communicate rules and instructions
and exchange accurate information.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:
