DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Teaching Teaches in the classroom, skills laboratory, and clinical facilities. Prepares and delivers lectures as assigned. Revises content as needed. Develops skills lab experiences for students which includes researching procedures, writing objectives and outcomes, developing case-based scenarios and simulations, developing competency checklists, and conducting competency testing of students. Conducts skills lab instruction which includes demonstration, supervised practice, and troubleshooting. Prepares and notifies students of patient assignments prior to clinical. Supervises student practice in clinical settings. This includes holding pre-conference to prepare students to begin the day, supervision of patient care, and facilitating post conferences where students may have the opportunity to discuss patient care, discuss a topic of interest, or formally present a short clinical presentation to fellow students. Provides remediation sessions for students as needed on an individual or group basis. Assessment Develops and implements a variety of assessment tools to evaluate student learning and achievement of course outcomes. This includes Student Learning Outcome Assessment (SLOA), Course Outcome Guides (COG) at the end of each semester. Prepares, administers, and corrects exams. Posts grades and reviews exams with students as needed. Conducts skills testing to validate student competency. Provides written weekly feedback to assigned clinical students regarding their clinical performance and plan of care. Counsels students as necessary regarding classroom, skills lab, or clinical concerns. Conducts final clinical performance evaluations for assigned students at the end of each clinical affiliation. Student Advisement Advise new and existing students regarding program requirements including program admission, progression, and graduation requirements. Maintains five office hours per week. Curriculum Development Assists the Director with assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating the nursing program. Ensures adherence to program standards and achievement of program outcomes. Participates in major and minor revisions to the Nursing Department framework, program outcomes, courses, labs, and clinical experiences as needed, in response to student testing, changes in health care, patient care standards, standards of practice and accrediting agencies. Shared Governance Participates in college, division, and department meetings. Professional Development Maintains current nursing licensure, CPR, and specialty certifications. Develops annually and follows through with an approved annual review and professional development plan. (ARPDP) Actively participates in continuing education activities to maintain licensure, maintain teaching and clinical expertise, and fulfill clinical agency practice standards. College Service Participates in college activities that address departmental responsibilities, community outreach, or student or campus life activities. Assists in orienting and mentoring adjunct faculty. Attends professional meetings in the community as needed to pursue new ideas and develop relationships and opportunities that are relevant to the nursing program. Community Service Participates in voluntary community service activities as appropriate. Other Responsibilities Assists in developing the clinical schedule in conjunction with the community agencies and other nursing schools. Completes other duties as assigned. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE Master of Science Degree in Nursing with a minimum of three years of Medical Surgical experience in an acute clinical setting required. Two to three years of college teaching in a nursing program preferred. Valid RN license or eligible in Maryland. SKILLS AND ABILITIES Ability to establish effective relationships with members of the community, students, fellow faculty, and college staff. Ability to learn and work with a variety of clinical simulation software and ther computer applications such as Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel. Able to organize and prioritize work, attend to details, and work in a team-oriented setting.
