Hagerstown Community College Computer Support Technician in Hagerstown, Maryland

SUMMARY STATEMENT  

The Computer Support Technician is responsible for the coordination, installation and maintenance of administrative workstations, classroom and computer lab equipment and software along with assisting College personnel and students in the use of such equipment and software. DUTIES A. Coordinates and assists HCC personnel and students in the use of workstation software and hardware.  

  1. Functions as a member of the Help Desk Team during given shift. Monitors Administrative workstation computing, laboratory usage/scheduling and records problems in the work order software.  

       

  2. Consults and assists instructors with hardware specifications and implementation of application programs for credit and non-credit courses.  

       

  3. Consults and assists administrative staff and instructors with hardware specifications and implementation of workstation software.  

       

  4. Helps administrative staff, instructors and students with the use of workstations, printers, network and software.  

       

  5. Develops and documents procedures and standards to assist administrative staff, instructors and students in learning how to use the hardware and software.  

       

  6. Assists the Assistant Director, IT with the overall management of the computer laboratories, classrooms and workstation computing.  

       

7.    Ensuring the anti-virus software is installed, properly configured, regularly updated and working properly on all workstations.

 

8.    Creates and maintains network scripts, group policies, and software to control workstations attached to the network.

 

9.    Creates and maintains software images for workstations using network protocols and tools.

 

10.  Creates and maintains software images for Virtual Desktop Infrastructure using native tools.

 

11.  Performs on-site diagnosis, analysis, and resolution of complicated PC problems for various end users, and implementing and recommending corrective hardware and software solutions.

 

12.  Coordinates requirements for and provides input into the development, maintenance and implementation of software images for all classroom, computer labs, VDI, and Administrative workstations.

 

  1.   Ensures physical and network security procedures are followed.

     

14.  Suggests budget items for laboratory and workstation improvements to the Assistant Director, IT.

 

  1.   Coordinates the requests and replenishment of supplies as needed.

     

16.  Provides backup to the Help Desk, and may fill-in as needed. 

 

 

 

B.   Performs other duties as assigned by the Assistant Director, IT.

  EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE  

 Associate's degree in Computer Science or related field is preferred or the willingness to obtain a degree if hired.  

SKILLS AND ABILITIES  

Ability to communicate both orally and in writing in non-technical English; ability to deal tactfully, effectively, and fairly with people; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships; programming skills; detailed knowledge of the supported hardware and software environment, including common workstation applications; good keyboard skills; ability to work independently in the absence of detailed instructions and supervision; ability to operate a variety of computer and network equipment; must be customer oriented and possess excellent interpersonal skills.

Software Requirements -- All Windows operating systems, Microsoft Office, Android, Apple MacOS and iOS.
