Western Colorado Uni Lecturer in Physics in Gunnison, Colorado

POSITION:

Western Colorado University invites applications for a full-time, lecturer position in Physics and Engineering.  Primary teaching responsibilities include Introductory Calculus-based Physics lecture and labs, as well as other courses in support of the degree programs in physics and engineering.  We seek a dynamic teacher-scholar who is committed to student-centered learning, professional preparation, and inclusive, interdisciplinary education. This is an in-person, on-campus position on our vibrant residential campus in Gunnison, Colorado.

The teaching load for Lecturers at Western is 30 credits per academic year, but we anticipate a reduced teaching load of 24 credits per academic year and reassign time for lab setup and mentoring undergraduate students in physics and engineering for this hire. Responsibilities also include program development, participation in departmental activities, supervision of extracurricular undergraduate activities, and continued professional development. The successful applicant will join a supportive team of collaborative colleagues interested in the best methods for student success.

QUALIFICATIONS: A Masters is required but a Ph.D. is preferred.  A background in physics, engineering or closely related field is required.  Candidates must have a demonstrated commitment to undergraduate education, excellence in teaching, and willingness to work with and be sensitive to the educational needs of all students. Candidates must also be able to use technology in instructional delivery, including the ability to teach online and hybrid courses. Collegiality and professional flexibility are sought in the successful candidate.

SALARY/BENEFITS: $50,000-$54,000 annualized salary. Western offers an excellent benefits package including shared premiums for a comprehensive health insurance plan, dental insurance, retirement plan, life insurance, and other insurance options.
