**JOB OBJECTIVE: Under general supervision of the Director, Parks and Recreation, this position performs a variety of skilled and semi-skilled work in carpentry, painting, electrical and plumbing.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: 1.Performs a variety of duties such as constructing and repairing structuralwoodwork/equipment, working from blueprints, drawings, and/or verbal instructions. 2.Repairs, and maintains plumbing systems, fixtures, pipes, and equipment for buildingsunder the direction of the Parks and Recreation Department. 3.Assists in painting and refurbishing the interior and exterior of structures under thedirection of the Parks and Recreation Department. 4.Installs, repairs, and maintains electrical fixtures, equipment, and wiring at buildings andfacilities under the direction of the Parks and Recreation Department. 5.Receives and completes work orders for each project by listing the amount of time andmaterials used. 6.Climbs ladders to reach, replace, and repair interior and exterior lighting fixtures, bulbsand other electronic components. 7.Operates a light truck to transport tools, materials, and equipment to various work sites. 8.Performs preventive maintenance on electrical equipment, fixtures, and wiring. 9.Repairs new and existing plumbing systems; including valves, drains, basins, toiletfixtures and sinks. 10.Cuts and threads pipes and uses a variety of standard tools and equipment. 11.Estimates required materials for projects by visiting work sites, reviewing work ordersand sketches; purchases required materials. 12. Applies coats of paint, varnish, stain, enamel or lacquer to decorate and protect interior or exterior surfaces, trimmings and fixtures of buildings or structures. 13. Applies a primer or sealer to make a suitable surface to apply a finished coat of paint. 14. Constructs, erects, installs, and repairs various structures and fixtures of wood, plywood and wallboard conforming to local building codes. 15. Selects proper lumber and other building materials to complete required projects. 16. Operates equipment such as tractors and implements, skid steers, mowers, chainsaws, and weed eaters. 17. Knowledge of lawn care chemicals, applying chemicals to include proper ratio per application and the ability to spread seed and fertilizer.
SECONDARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES: 1. Maintains a supply of standard repair parts, prepares requisitions and purchases supplies. 2. Aids another skilled craftsman, as assigned. 3. Performs other related duties as required by the Parks and Recreation Director. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITES: None REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: • Knowledge of the standard practices and safety precautions of the construction trade. • Knowledge of basic electrical principles, practices, and techniques. • Knowledge of basic plumbing principles, practices, and techniques. • Knowledge of basic carpentry principles, practices and techniques. • Skill in the operation of hand and light power tools. • Skill in the operation of electrical test meters and various gauges. • Skill in the operation of an automatic transmission automobile. • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematic diagrams and technical manuals. • Ability to review work of contractors for compliance with specifications. • Ability to direct the work of employees or contractors, if necessary. • Ability to understand written and oral instructions. • Ability to work safely and effectively at considerable heights.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: • High School Diploma. • Two (2) years of work experience in general maintenance. • Any equivalent combination of education and experience. ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS: • Must possess a valid Mississippi Driver's License before employment and maintain licensure for duration of employment in this position.
SALARY RANGE: $20-$22 per hour (depending on experience & skill set)**
