Position Overview
The CAD/GIS Operator assists in application of principles, methods, and techniques of Engineering.
Essential Job Functions
Essential duties and functions, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, May include the following. Other related duties may be assigned.
• Reviews project specifications and confers with Engineer concerning assistance required such as plan preparation, acceptance testing, evaluation of field conditions, design changes, and reports.
• Prepares plates and other Engineering drawings using computer assisted drafting techniques.
• Draws and updates city maps from field notes, old drawings, sketches and electronic media.
• Convert survey party field notes from written and electronic data; plots field information on plan and profile drawings; Surveys project sites to obtain topographical details of sites.
• Reproduces various printed materials as requested by City departments.
• Maintains electronic as-built files on maps, drawings and similar data.
• Prepares overlays of water, sewer, storm drainage and other utilities on street maps, base maps and tax maps, using current CAD/GIS techniques.
• Drafts detailed dimensional drawings such as those needed for plans and projects.
• Calculates dimensions, profile specifications, and quantities of materials such as steel, concrete, and asphalt.
• Inspects construction sites to determine conformance of projects to design specifications.

Must posses required knowledge, skills, abilities and experience and be able to explain and demonstrate, with or without reasonable accommodations, that the essential functions of the job can be performed.
• Knowledge of Industry Standards and Practices, and ability to make accurate, neat and legible drawings.
• Ability to plan, create and design attractice drafting work.
• Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
• Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals and layout, reproduce, assemble, bind and distribute same.
• Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
• Ability to work with mathematical concepts, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.
• Ability to apply concepts such as survey principles and practices.
• Ability to do complex engineering design drawings, consisting of all site engineering features
• Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
• Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
• Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships as necessitated by work assignments
Education and Experience
Associate's degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; and two to three years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Knowledge of engineering computer aided design (CAD) and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) techniques, software and hardware.
Required Licenses or Certificates
Must possess a valid Class C Mississippi driver's license.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
