BUSINESS UNIT: TERMINALS Kinder Morgan is the largest independent terminal operator in North America, providing a strong, reliable network of 144 terminals serving our customers’ storage, distribution, blending and logistical needs. Our terminals store and handle renewable fuels, petroleum products, chemicals, vegetable oils and other products. We have a combined liquids storage capacity of approximately 151 million barrels and handle about 59 million tons of dry bulk materials annually.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Understands and can communicate to others procedures required for bulk material handling operations at Total Terminal.

  • Must be willing to work shift and/or overtime hours during the week and/or weekends as dictated by operations.

  • Conducts daily safety meetings with crew members.

  • Ensures all daily, weekly, monthly, and quarterly inspections are completed and turned in to be filed.

  • Knowledge of EPA and OSHA requirements and regulations is mandatory.

  • Records and reports any issues or environmental concerns to the terminal supervisor/manager for resolution.

  • Submits daily crew turn-over reports at the end of each shift.

  • Trains subordinates in bulk material safety requirements of Kinder Morgan and Total Refinery including but not limited to lock out/tag out, confined space, hotwork, etc.

  • Analyzes and resolves work problems, or assists workers in solving work problems.

  • Directs employees to those who can provide interpretation of company policies to workers and enforces safety regulations.

  • Initiates or suggests plans to motivate workers to achieve work goals.

  • Directs and assists workers in mechanical and hydraulic maintenance and repair of conveyor machinery and heavy equipment.

  • Assists workers in diagnosing malfunctions in machinery and equipment.

  • Directs and assists workers engaged in dismantling, assembling and installing industrial equipment and machinery.

  • Maintains inspection, time and production records.

  • Prepares daily work schedule to utilize manpower efficiently.

  • Monitors and reports to supervisor spare parts inventory/shortages.

  • Studies production schedules and estimates worker hour requirements for completion of job assignment.

  • Enforces Kinder Morgan and Refinery safety regulations.

  • Interprets specifications, job orders to workers and assigns duties.

  • Has understanding and grasp of environmental impact of Bulk material handling operations.

  • Understands, trains and communicates to others proper ship loading procedures.

  • Takes lead in assuring performance of daily operations of conveyor systems and heavy equipment operations.

  • Performs activities of workers supervised, i.e. this is a working forperson/lead person.

  • Communicates with co-workers using radio and in person communication.

  • Must carry company cell phone and radio for proper communication.

  • Performs other duties that may be assigned.

  • Must be willing to work as part of a team.

  • Prioritize and plans work activities using time efficiently, plans for additional resources, organizes schedules of other people and their tasks, develops realistic action plans.

    Position Requirements

    EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • High School Diploma or GED Equivalent is required.

  • A minimum of 3- 5 years of previous successful or combination of education and experience is required.

    COMPETENCIES, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions.

  • Ability to deal with standardized situations with only occasional or no variables.

  • Ability to put together work schedules for efficient manpower utilization.

  • Basic computer skills (knowledge of MS Office, Outlook, Word and various operating systems, and other company software.)

  • The ability to work from written and verbal instructions

CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, ECT:

  • Equipment operator's certification for equipment being operated; or 1-3 month's related experience and or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred.

  • Must pass and complete safety training/certification as required by customers to work in their facilities and as required by Kinder Morgan.

  • Must possess and maintain a valid motor vehicle operator's license and have willingness to use company vehicles in the course of employment. Must obtain and /or meet requirements to enter foreign trade zones and as necessary obtain a TWIC.

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Regularly exposed to outside weather conditions and also but not limited to: heights in excess of 5 feet, moving mechanical parts, operating equipment, fumes, airborne particles, vibration, uneven terrain and a high noise level in the work environment.

  • Required to stand, walk and climb for extended periods of time.

  • Communication with supervision and coworkers via radio,hand signals, and in person interaction.

  • Must wear fire retardant clothing.

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle or feel, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.

  • The employee must be willing to train on and operate all applicable equipment necessary for Terminal operations.

  • The employee must understand that he/she must work in a team setting with operations and maintenance. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to focus

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, outside weather conditions and vibration.

  • The employee is frequently exposed to high, precarious places and areas of electrical shock and a noise level that is usually loud for this work environment. Leads a crew of 3 to 7 daily.

  • Must be able to work overtime, weekends, and holidays as dictated by operations.

  • Also required to perform shift work, rotating day/night.
